Im in PA it is illegal to privately transact any alcohol here or I would have sold off half of our cellar years ago.

I started drinking off some of the better wines just because, here was one about a year ago.

Ah sorry - I misread the text on that winery's website. That's a curious law in PA isn't it, you can't even put stuff up for auction or anything?

1986... my birth year! I've had the '82, ie the wine Mr. Parker made his name on, but never '86. Though a bottle of Haut-Brion '86 a friend opened for me a few years back was one of the best wines I've ever drunk.

Yes he will surly add some.

It's crazy isn't it... picking Gruner at the beginning of September and still needing an acid add.

I remember when I first tasted Beaujolais '21s I was genuinely almost in tears, they reminded me of '11 and '13. And I told anyone who'd listen to buy as much as they could, as we'd possibly never see its like again. Of course when I later looked at wine publications and vintage charts they described 2021 in the Beaujolais as: 'cold', 'problematic', 'poor', &c. But actually the wines were near-perfect.

These are the stated ABVs of the last six vintages of Foillard's Cote du Py, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess which is the best of them:

'17 - 13.5%
'18 - 14.5%
'19 - 13.5%
'20 - 14%
'21 - 12.5%
'22 - 14%

I see where you are coming from and concur. This years issue, aside from the obvious heatwave, was the continuance of "tropical nights". Which is according to our meteorologists any night that doesn't drop below 20 degrees Celsius. Without wide day/night differentials the acidity stays low.

Markus Molitor ~ Erdener Treppchen Kabinett trocken, 2016

It's time to say goodbye to summer.

This wine fits perfectly with this attitude. It smells of vineyard peach, red apples, even with a spicy note. This "dry-labeled" Riesling doesn't taste like a dry wine at all, but the fruit doesn't seem too sweet. The acidity makes the wine seem lively and crystalline. Floating transparency on a slate driven mineral core is the theme here. Only Mosel Riesling Kabinett is able to evoke this feeling.

Bye, dear Summer!

Cheers!

We bought a half bottle to taste a vintage port from a generally declared year. This vintage will not fully mature for 40 or 50 or more years, but we wanted to taste a great year early on to compare later. Fantastic pour, but I won’t live long enough to taste it in its prime.

Typical Austrian Grüner Veltliner (Lower Austria, Wachau)

I had a G-V wine recently but from the new world (Canada). Not a commonly seen varietal around here, but it was a very enjoyable bottle!

Austrian Natural/Orange wines.

This year’s harvest was Grüner Veltliner

My wife's favourite grape!

This grape keeps popping up here! :a17:

How do you like the domestic offerings?
The only Canadian offering I have encountered ... the one I mentioned before ... is right up there with the usual high quality of the winery that makes it. It's been a while but if memory serves, it's very similar to their Riesling wines.

Jean Stodden ~ 'JS' Pinot Noir, 2019

This German Pinot from the Ahr region is more of an entry-level wine that is already starting to show drinking maturity. I found a lot of dark cherries and blackberries mixed with forest floor and a hint of milk chocolate. Overall, not overly complex, but there is no denying that this Pinot is a very enjoyable wine to drink and absolutely shows its quality.

Cheers!
