Which French soaps to try?

just brace yourself for the shipping rates and the eternity it takes to get to you. my wife ordered me some well before christmas. it's still not here yet. i think there is some french guy in customs saying...

"this is not a french name. he obviously does not deserve our martin de candre! another week in quarantine!"

I would see if your father lives close enough to drop by or he can just call them and ask if there is a store in his area where he can pick up a jar.

Since your father probably does not make this trip often this is a special purchase that will last a very long time, is of excellent quality. I would certainly make the effort.

I think all of French soaps are vegetable based soaps(anyone who knows tallow French one?) BTW I would like to suggest MdC and L'occitane Cade which are very good performers to you.

It appears that Le Comptoir des Savonniers is now back in production or stock. I would add this to the list.

Pré de Provence cannot be obtained in France, unfortunately. I wish it could, but no. The Yellow Pages of the French town listed on the tin do not know of a company 'Les Oliviers', and I even recall that a forum member passing through there asked the local tourist office, with highly surprised looks as the result. Whereever pdP is produced, I can only order it from US webstores.

The list of products you can try apart from the soaps already mentioned (PdP, PS, MS, MdC):

— Institute Karité (via webshop)
— La Maison du Barbier (which I found at a Cora mall, I think)
— Plisson (probably available at large stores like Lafayette; I know I saw it at Printemps in Paris; there's some speculation as to the likeliness of Plission and Joris)

Plisson, Joris and La Maison du Barbier are Made in England.

I checked and it is a 3.5 hour drive there from where he lives, he leaves in a couple of weeks, so I am thinking that even if I order it online and get it sent to him it may be cutting it a bit fine.

I might leave the MdC for his next year's trip, plan well ahead next year, and maybe add a TI straight to the wishlist next year too.

If he is that close I am willing to bet that he could find it locally. It is not mass marketed but I am thinking it is distributed locally pretty well. I would have him at least call. You both might be surprised.

I'll have him look into it, nothing to lose, worst case they don't have it and all he finds is Bonsavon.

I bought Provence Sante because it was only $10 for a refill puck. I don't regret it. It lathers easily and leaves your face moisturized.
