KaliFlower Organics shave soap & After Shave Balm

A search for KaliFlower throws up several mentions in passing, but not so much in terms of sole reviews or info... so this and others experience and opinions may help anyone else intrigued by a vegan Swedish soap. Mr. Shavington is a fan, i believe - and can maybe advise on the 'other' shave soap the Citrus-Cedar...

I ordered direct from them for the Pine Tar shave soap and the after shave balm - reasonable shipping rates too.

I really should have just included a refill puck of the Citrus-Cedar... but next time i reckon l'll order from Portugal from yourshaving.com as I can also add some more Razorock Mudder Focker and Haslinger at the same time.

All shaves were my usual 2 pass daily shave after a shower with a Tatara Masamune with Gillette London Bridge blade, and a TataraxSemogue Boar brush, Alum block then after shave balm.

Tjära Shave Soap
Ingredients: soy wax, coconut oil, castor oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, glycerin, pine tar, juniper essential oil, pine essential oil.

The Citrus-Cedar soap replaces the pine tar with Bentonite clay (and different fragrances) which would be nice to try...

The scent is light and quite lovely - but not especially or strongly "piney" which was a surprise. It kind of reminded me of some Meißner Tremonia Strong N Scottish Soap i'd tried... except this one is pleasant and light. The smoky/peaty scent of it had me googling 'pine tar soap' - and it seems the pine tar is produced by burning pine tree stumps, so, well - that accounts for it.
Looking at the ingredients had me going back upstairs to 'sniff the stick' and see if i could pick up any gin scent from the juniper, hmmm ;-)
Also has some useful skin care properties - antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antipruritic.

The soap is not as hard as Pre de Provence or Saponificio Varesino or other milled/dried/aged soaps. In fact the firmness is pretty much the same as Arko! so you can press it into any container you like... or into a twist up shave stick tube as i did, which is how use all my soaps.

My other soaps for comparsion and that I intend to keep using are SV Argania, RR Mudder Focker & PdeP Bergamot & Thyme (mainly due to it's fresh scent and ease of lather).

The TLDR is that KaliFlower Tjära will be added to this list... and maybe the Cedar-Citrus will push out the PdeP B&T (once i've used up the spare pucks).

First days shave was with the London Bridge blade on its last (7th) day, followed by a brand new blade today.
Lather was very easy to generate - the SV needs a bit more time adding water, but the Kaliflower lathers as easily as the Mudder Focker which is only barely behind the PdeP, so that's great. Today's 2nd pass was very nice as the lather i'd made today was wetter... so will add a touch more water to it next time a bit more like the SV.
Both days shave was very comfortable - new or well used blade.
I'll judge 'performance' mainly on how the alum block feels after the shave to rate how much irritation on neck etc - and while the SV Argania is still on top for comfort/ minimising irritation the KaliFlower is very close and may well get even closer with more practice with it.
I'm also interested in how the bentonite clay may affect it in the Citrus-Cedar version, as the RR Mudder Focker has Fuller's Earth which seems to have similarly good results...

After Shave Balm
Ingredients: aqua, cetyl alcohol, persea gratissima, salvia officinalis, carthamus tinctorius, , hamamelis virginiana, symphyti officinalis, butyros permum parkii, glycerine, sodium stearyl lactylate, glyceryl stearate, aloe barbadensis, dehydroacetic acid sodium salt, perfume from essential oils: (citrus bergamia, laurel leaf, boswellia carterii, piper nigrum) limonen, linalol.

"Moisturising and astringent Organic After Shave Balm infused with Sage from our own herb garden. We added Witch Hazel extract, Comfrey root extract and Aloe Vera extract to aid any irritation that might occur after shaving.

Organic essential oils from Bergamot, Laurel leaf, Frankinsence and Black pepper."

Comes in a cute, small 60ml glass jar.
Scent is... lovely. :001_rolle I mean, it's been a while since i've eaten any sage & onion stuffing which doesn't help... but google says sage has a warm, earthy, and slightly minty smell - which does describe it quite nicely. It's very pleasantly herbal and almost ginger like warmth and again, like the soap, the scent is NOT strong or overpowering. Very pleasant in the same way as a jar of Noxzema used to smell - kind of smells like it'll be good fr your skin (and not interfere with any perfume you use).

Certainly does what it says on the tin - and isn't greasy or sticky on the hands. Will get a refill when i get the Ctirus-Cedar soap and then alternate with my usual Thayer's Milky Toner (to which I add tea tree, argan and jojoba oil).
