What's new

What's your coffee today? What brew method? Photos

This morning, I opened a new brick of coffee. Every week, my girlfriend and I work through the advertisements/flyers from the supermarkets, and look what's on sale. Here in Germany, some common brands of coffee are Jacobs, Mövenpick, Melitta, Tchibo, Eduscho etc. Some have disappeared. The supermarkets, for example Aldi and Lidl, also have their own brands. Today, we are going to buy own-brand filters in Lidl. When we go to another country - lately it's been Austria and France - I enjoy going in a supermarket there.

G'day all!
Espresso with two demitasse spoons of sugar and a few spoonfuls of brandy to rinse, drunk on the front porch to enjoy the last gasp of cool before the day warmed up.
Went up to the country to pick some blueberries with the family and some friends, our family picked about 9 kilos (roughly 20lbs) which should freeze well and last us about a year. Some might've missed the bucket and fell into my mouth.

Not made for these times.
Good morning, coffee crew.

It's 46° in Music City right now with a high around 50° today. Overcast with a few showers expected. About 6 hours of sleep last night. I got home from the studio just after 9 pm and crashed on my sleeper sofa. Just going to stay home and relax today. Looking forward to football, wings and some cold beer later. 🏈🍗🍻

Have a peaceful Saturday, my friends.

First cup this morning was:

I used the 6-cup Bialetti.
Filled the boiler to 180 grams with just off boil water.

Used Melitta French Roast ground with the 1ZPresso JX grinder set to two whole turns from zero.

Used an AeroPress filter on the bottom of the top vessel.

The burner was pre-heated on a medium setting.

I moved the heat down to 3 after 1 minute and again down to 2 after the 2 minute mark and pulled the pot when the output coffee turned clear/white.

This yielded 128 grams of strong espresso like coffee. I poured hot water to 296 grams.

I’m inclined to grind a little coarser and maybe dilute it a bit more. A little sugar might smooth things a bit.

One of the hacks was to fill the filter funnel with beans. Grind them and fill the filter funnel with the grounds. I had left over grounds to deal with. But I can cut back on the weight of the beans moving forward.

Not a bad cup for a new brewer and new technique.

Chocolates really add too it.

Cheers!!!

Today, I used my Varia FLO dripper with my Atomic Coffee Roasters (Peabdy, MA) - Costa Rica La Pastora beans.
I went with the Alternative Brewing 4:6 recipe, targeting heightened acidity (more brightness) and a medium body. I used the Kurasu logo 'Fast 2' screen (Bright, Clean, Sparkling Clarity). I think I liked yesterday's 4:6 brew with the light body variation better because it had more tasting notes. Maybe I will look at my lighter body recipes going forward.

G'day all!
Shared a French press of coffee and locally grown chicory blend over a game of cribbage (I lost but it was fun none the less).

I have played cribbage everyday for years online. My dad taught my sister and I cribbage at a very young age. He was ahead of his time in parenting and would use games to teach us math skills. I taught one of my sons to play and now I am in the process of teaching my granddaughter to play. My dad made the comment if you can learn to play cribbage well other games are relatively easy.
