What's your coffee today? What brew method? Photos

Is that pretty standard for you? lately I’ve been sticking to 5 equal pours. I’m sure it’s not absolutely maxing out the quality of every cup, but it’s been consistently good.
We had some discussion on this in the what did you learn from your coffee brew method thread, I think...

I am using variations on the 40:60 method. Because I am making so little, the difference between 40% and total is only 100g. So the short answer is that I only split that into two for practical reasons. Remember, the more pours you do, the more agitation you create and therefor the higher the extraction. I sometimes do 4 pours when I am having a larger serving, but usually the extra extraction is unwanted. It's another tool once you are at a grind setting that can't be further optimised.

Thanks I’ll check it out - been meaning to spend more time in that thread anyway. I used to primarily use the 4:6 method, but at some point started grinding quite coarse and going with the 5 pour. I think I’ll go back to 4:6 as i’ve noticed a little over extraction every so often and you make a good point about the agitation with more pours. I think that could be a better solution than grinding even coarser than i already am.

I had two brews today of Wicked Joe Organic Coffee Co. (Topsham, Maine) - Guatemala Huehuetenango beans using my original AeroPress with the Lance Hedrick Bloom Recipe. I used the Melodrip for the bloom pours for both cups. The morning brew, I used my Timemore Youth Pour Over kettle. For the evening brew, to save time, I used just my Oxo goose neck kettle. The Timemore kettle earned a spot as a travel kettle but I still prefer the neck and spout design of th Oxo more.

The second brew of the day finished the bag of beans, so I plan to open a bag of Blacksmith Coffee Roastery (Lindsborg, Kansas) - Guatemala Finca La Hermosa for tomorrow's brew.

Good morning, coffee crew.

Mad Priest Sloth Dispelling. French press. Black.

It's 32° in Music City right now with a high around 49°. It looks like we're going to get plenty of sunshine today. Maybe 5 hours of sleep last night. I can hear the coyotes howling in the distance again right now. I'm driving my mother to her appointment at St. Thomas at 7:30 am. We're usually only there for about an hour or two. After that we're going to have breakfast somewhere before heading home. Evening session at the studio and that's a wrap for today.

Have a blessed Thursday, my friends.

What’s up, my peeps?!?!?! Ain’t no thang but a motha cluckin’ chicken wing. This morning i’m sipping on a cup of Backbone Jack of All Trades beans using the Moccamaster to brew the tasty concoction. I’m drinking it black so y’all know how i do it! It’ll be wild to see how Coach Belichick does with North Carolina Tar Heels program. He’s one of the greats to head the position so we shall find out. You folks are gonna have a great day, i got faith in y’all - peace 🕊️🌈🎅

Hey, all.

Last night, the Major had an MRI on his afflicted left shoulder. As you may recall, he managed to mess up his left shoulder while reflexively reaching out to brace himself when he slipped down the stairs hopping down, like an idiot, rather than sliding down on his *** as any sensible individual would have done.

Then again, nobody has ever accused the Major of being sensible. At least, not recently.

Moving on.

He does not expect to hear back from his doctor about the results for a couple of days, at the earliest. But the MRI required the virtual clamping of his shoulder so that it remains still for the scan. And, as you may imagine, having one's shoulder clamped down, hard, for 20 minutes, did not lead to a comfortable, painless night's sleep.

Very fortunately, though, when he woke up today, the Major found his shoulder felt a fair bit better than it did last night. So, for the first time since this past Sunday, he came downstairs for breakfast. To celebrate, so to speak, he made himself a cup of volcanica Tanzania AA in the Keurig. Black, as G-d intended.

Sometimes, there aren't enough Hs in "ahhhhhhhhhh..."

Here's hoping you all have a blessed, painless day. Peace, love, and Star Trek.

Well, last week at this time the wife and I completed our pilgrimage to Maui. I made sure we brought the moka pots in our checked baggage as the espresso machine and the rest of our stuff from the mainland takes around 4 to 6 weeks. Anyway, we couldn’t be happier, the wife and I have had this day circled on our calendars for about 15 yrs.
Cheers everyone
