What's new

What's next for shaving?

A lot of companies are going to jump on the "Green" bandwagon for its marketing potential.

I think that the major brands like will start producing software touted as "Organic" ... including creams, ASLs and ASBs. Of course, they will cost considerably more than the mass-produced items they have now, and will shave just about the same.

Also, there will be a move away from goop in aerosol cans, and more towards pump-bottles and squeeze-tubes. These will be marketed as "Eco-Friendly" and of course they will cost more and shave just about the same as their goop did.

Companies that don't change their product will begin changing their product sizes. For example, a 4.4oz puck of Tabac soap will remain at the same price, but will start shrinking by 5~10% per year. Eventually, it will get down to around a 2.5oz puck, still selling at the same price.

yeah im assuming they will go the "green" route by saying the blades are easier to recycle and try to put the goop into pumps even though aerosols dont harm anything anymore

I think I will be seeing atleast 10 blade razors in my lifetime. When this madness is gonna end GODDDDDDDDD!

I'm betting they'll offer a laser blade version of that ten blade razor you're talking about, with the tenth laser blade cauterizing any nicks caused by the first nine! :w00t:

Saw this in the grocery store the other day. I don't even know why I venture down the shaving aisle any more...:cursing:

Steampunk. That's where it's goin *chuckle* there will always be something new or some niche to exploit. Eventually the exploitation takes the wind out of something we all love and enjoy. Such is commerce I suppose. Me? I'll just stick with what works best and costs the least.

A cream application that provides BBS in under 30 secs? Leave it on for 60 secs and its permanent BBS for life :w00t:

About 3 years ago I was seriously considering trying some of these creams which I understand the ladies use to dissolve the hair on their legs. The idea of being nice and smooth for days at a time and not having to scrape cold gel lather off my face every morning was very appealing.

eventually the thing will have so many blades, they custom fit it to your face, and pull down a quarter of an inch, and that shaves your whole face.

I've noticed that as the economy swirls down the toilet, people are more interested in quality over quantity. It seems folks are putting a little more money toward worthy purchases that will last a long time rather than wasting it on disposable crap. That, and with Gillette's purchase of AoS, makes me think we will very shortly see a "boutique" line from Gillette. Things that look and feel disposable are waning in popularity, so Big G will promote the fancy AoS handles, brushes, creams, soaps, things that look like they will last a while. Plus, the creams are easy to promote as "green" - which I think is increasing in popularity in part due too the economy.

Did anyone forget to mention the latest razors vibrate and come with head light? Yeah, I like to Nordstroms at the mens grooming, they have a Fusion that lights up and vibrates on display you can play with. I always ask them, why do I need a razor that vibrates and lights up? Its not like my girlfriend uses my razor all the time?

The next thing has been the Nivea 3 in 1 shower/shave crap fusion in the bottle. Now Gillette is coming in range of Gels, Foamy, Hair Gel. What is next? I don't know, Gillette and Schick are making mad money on cartridge razors, next will be countries who primarily use D/E Safety Razors today like India and Africa, convert them to Cartridge razors. Like they did recently with Gillette Plats, are not made in Poland anymore, but I believe made in Russia now.

I read somewhere that Schick is working on a little black box with a red button. When a you're aready for a shave, all you have to do is press the red button. When you do, a Jenna Jameson clone jumps out of the box with a Quattro and gives you a nice BBS shave (and a happy ending)!

Schick is going to end up OWNING Gillette's market share with this little gizmo.

What ever shaving invention they come up next, it is going to have to be something that Joe Public will buy replacements for on a regular basis. Otherwise, there goes the business model.

Last time I went to k-mart in my area, they had this 6 blade Torq Razor, they are cheaper then the Fusion and the blades are 1/2 the cost of the fusion and mach 3... But still 6 blades is just too many.. I can imagine that Gillette will either hit with a 7 - 10 blade monster... I still say a single blade is the best shave in my opinion...

Cheers,
