What soaps have you been disappointed with?

Cella red. It was a good soap, until it turned rancid in the heat of summer.

Unfortunately, the red Cella in a jar has two problems:
- if you close the jar before the soap is completely dry, it can cause rancidity phenomena.
- it can cause semi-allergic reactions to those who are intolerant to benzaldehyde, a molecule responsible for the typical almond aroma.
For the rest, in my opinion, it remains a good product, even if I prefer the new green to Aloe (vegetable = no rancidity and does not contain benzaldehyde).

Closing the container wasn't the problem, because I always leave the lid off with the container propped on it overnight. It gets quite hot here in the summer, and I feel that is most likely the problem.
Anyway I too really like Cella green.

Since members liked the smell and some considered the cream better, I got a small tube of Trumpers Rose on Amazon for about $11 with some Thayers Rose to see how it plays out.

Thanks!

I hear you on the rancidity. Happened to me. Now I leave it upside down in the wash basin overnight. I also had skin irritation the first time I used it. Some products don't bother me on the second try. This was one of them. That said, I don't think I will be replacing my current tub when it runs out.

Thayers Rose is great. GFT Coral Skin Food is the companion aftershave balm for their rose soap and cream, in case you want to find a companion aftershave for the shave cream. That said, while I love the scent of GFT rose, I find the performance of the soap lacking. Let us know how the cream does.

The TFS has the aroma and consistency of red Cella but is veg based so I’m sure it would last longer. So far as rancidity that is…

Also costs less. If you REALLY like it, you can get a Kilo for $20 at Italian Barber.

The latest disappointment is Noble Otter Hamam.
The listed scents are:
Saffron, Bergamot, Petitgrain, Jasmine Absolute, Geranium, Wet Stone, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean.
If I preheat the shaving mug, the scent is a little better, but the only scent I can pick out is the wet stone.
As a shaving soap, it's fine. As a shaving experience it's a letdown.
I bought it as a change from Lonestar. I could smell all the scents.

Williams, of course. I could get good results with it, but it was way too much trouble. Proraso green is simply too strong smelling. Cella didn't impress me. I like most of the Haslinger varieties very much, but their honig (honey) not so much. Today I tried the now-discontinued Long Rifle for the first time, specifically their 1776. They seem to be trying to compete with Stirling, which I like, and will continue with a new brand name and sheep rather than beef tallow. Like Stirling, they attempt to create ultra-masculine scents, this one being tobacco cedar mahogany. Great shave and nothing too offensive if you don't mind sticking your nose into an old pipe or one of those cedar tobacco boxes, but as with Stirling, I'd probably go with an unscented one if they offered it.

Scent is very personal and associates with memories and emotions. Therefore it is hard to compare what one person likes vs another.

I was disappointed with the scent of Mike’s pepper, cedar wood and orange, but that in no way takes away from the excellence of the product.

I am disappointed with Cella bio in the green tub. I didn’t feel it maintained slickness. I was even more disappointed with the cella green tube pre-shave gel. Useless as best I can tell.

Zingari man has great slickness and amazing scents (imo) but I was disappointed by how much I need to make a reasonable amount of lather. 2-3 times what I find with other soaps making it expensive.

I liked the Captains choice shave soap, but I am a head shaver and it strings the eyes as do many shave soaps.

I've found, often, that when I am disappointed with a soap my disappointment has more to do with me not properly lathering (too little water, etc.). It took me 2 years to realize that my BM Latha was actually a good soap, I just wasn't adding enough water.

I would not say 'disappointed' but 'not impressed' with:

MdC. I bought two full size jars of the Original. Why two: reading the many reviews online, I thought I would be blown away by its performance. I also I remember liking the scent when I had a sampler. Turns out I don't like the scent and performance isn't better than what's out there. On the plus side, the ingredients are straight forward.

For what it's worth, I sometimes read online that it's a 'tripled-milled' soap (it's not). It's more of a firm paste.

Ethos (Grooming Essentials). In spite of containing fats from half of the animal kingdom (figure of speech), I don't find it performs better than what's out there. Scents, while subjective, are made of quality ingredients. Aftershave lotions (with ones with alcohol) are on the other end, excellent and are also made of quality ingredients.
