What Shavette / Barber Razor Did You Use Today?

Wednesday 14th August

Zenith 2000 C XSE Unbleached Boar - Proraso Green - Marianna 310/ Feather Cut Special #6 - Proraso Green AS

Finally back to a proper shave!. I am a rider for our National Blood Bike organisation and holidays are causing havoc with the shifts. I will have to be careful and make sure this does not become another 'job'. For the recent past I have been shaving with everything and anything including electrics....functional but not desirable. Today's shave was excellent. The feather Cut specials are holding out really well....very smooth and remaining sharp

My SR1 arrived. Whilst the blade arms do bend apart a little when the clamp is removed, it is nowhere near as pronounced as it was on the SRB. I think the bend is a deliberate feature to help get the arms open, but on the SRB it was so extreme that it actually made life difficult. On this one the gap is a sensible millimetre or two, rather than several centimetres!

More importantly, once clamped together the arms are a) straight, and b) centred in the scales, so they don't stick. I think it is safe to say that the SRB was a bit of a lemon. I know I am incredibly picky, but its compounded issues were irksome to me.

No such problems this time. Also....shiny! 😍

I think the blade bend is not normal. At least my Barbury's has no bend. And my cheap AE Teardrop A77 swing-back has no bend either.
Like "I" not "Y" !

Wonderful Weck shave tonight.

3 pass shave plus touch ups, drama free BBS.

I wasn't going for a BBS it just happened. I think the Electric Sheep soap helped this stuff is slicker than black ice.

That photo is really interesting - thank you for posting it. It is quite obvious that the arms on yours don't spring apart at all.

But I now have two Parkers where the arms spring apart to some degree. I think maybe it is normal for them to do that and you are lucky to have one that doesn't! Either that, or perhaps the Barbury is not made in the same factory as we suspect - it sure looks like it is though.

I agree that none of my other swingback shavettes do it, and they are all cheapo compared to a Parker. 🤷‍♂️

Growth: 3 day beard
Prep: Warm shower: Stirling Sheep bar soap
Pre: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm SHD 2-Band Badger bulb knot with Maggard Razors sky blue 25mm handle
Lather: Sudsy Soapery Unscented Tallow Shaving Soap
Load/Lather Bowl: HC&C shave bowl (straight walled)

Razor: Kai Kasho Woody
Blade: Kai Captain Blade (D3)

Post: Stirling witch hazel, PAA Mysterium Serum

This was my sixth shave with the Kai Kasho Woody. This was the first time shaving with this razor with this much growth. First time using this razor with the Kai Captain Blade. I had one weeper E-W pass on right side of my face. I had some razor rash on right side of the neck where my hair grows in a circle in all directions. I was surprised that the shave was smooth and the razor did not get bogged down in three-days growth. I would think I would have had several more nicks if I repeated this shave with the Kai Captain Standard razor (which has no lip). After I put everything away, I noticed stubble on the left side of my chin and the corners of my mouth which I missed. I am sure this is an angle thing. This combination has promise.
