what is the correct way to apply aftershave?

Yes, this really is the sort of thing that depends on what you enjoy.

Personally, I dry my face and then splash on, and I typically apply all over my face and neck. If my hands are still wet from AS, I might even rub on my arms.

The most important thing to remember is: if you use a bay rum or highly mentholated AS, be sure to thoroughly rinse your hands before visiting the little shavers' room.

I find witch hazel based aftershave works very well vs alcohol-based. Alcohol-based tend to burn more and witch-hazel base tend to soothe more. Skin types vary. I pat dry after a cold water rinse, the splash generously. I like the proraso, but there are others. I let that dry, then follow up with a moisturizing shave balm. Then a cologne after the balm gas fully absorbed into my skin.

Hello!

My end-game is as follows:

- Rinse off remaining shaving soap/cream
- Towel dry face (casual towel dab)
- Apply styptic stick (or alum block) if needed
- Mix unscented balm (Nivea for sensitive skin) with a few drops of my AS splash of my choice (varies) into my hands and massage over face
- Air dry face

It helps to know your product, and the amounts needed to tone and moisturize your skin.

Cheers!

I finish every shave like this............

Cold facecloth
Alum Block
(Clean kit, call of nature, brush teeth) Usually 5-10 minutes
Cold facecloth
Alcohol based aftershave

After I get dressed, I'll go back in the bathroom and slap on more of the same aftershave to "freshen up" - it always makes my face feel like a million dollars

If I go out, I slap on more of the same aftershave to "freshen up" again just before I set off

3 Tablespoons??? That's 1.5 ounces or the same as a shot of whiskey. You must have some big hands!

I take the aftershave out of the medicine cabinet, think about it and put in back in unused. I then spray some witch hazel on and then use a little balm. I wash off with cold water first however...exactly 49 degree. I have a scuttle for cold water. It's a birth year/quarter scuttle as I find that works a little better.

1) There are a few aftershaves that tend to leave me a bit tacky - to solve this, either apply to a slightly wet face, or wet a hand with water then pour the AS into that hand, rub hands together and apply to face.
This solves the tackiness for me.

2) The intention of AS (in my mind) is to disinfect, heal and provide scent - sometimes to lightly moisturize. So I apply to all shaved areas and spread any remaining to back of neck and/or chest. But whatever works for you and makes you happy... :001_smile

Shave rinse with cold water, Alum leave for a few mins while cleaning razor, scuttle, brush then cold water rinse. Pat dry witch hazel let dry while cleaning teeth, then pour into left cupped hand rub hands straight to face where I have shaved round neck and rub hands through hair and comb job done.

I guess my aftershave routine is a bit complicated...

1. Rinse all residual soap off of face
2. Apply alum block
3. Let that sit for a few seconds then rinse again
4. Apply witch hazel with cotton pad
5. Apply Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm
6a. Pour AS splash into cupped hand and rub all over
or
6b. Apply AS splash with atomizer then massage in

My post-shave routine is as follows.
1. Rinse off lather with warm (not hot) water, then a cold rinse.
2. Soak a face cloth in cold water, ring out excess, and apply to face for several seconds (feels good and soothing after a shave).
3. At this point my skin will still be moist but not dripping wet. Pour some splash into cupped left hand, rub together with my right hand and apply to face (I usually stroke it on until all areas are covered).
4. Finish with a lightly scented balm...Nivea sensitive and Proraso are both great choices, and the scent fades quickly enough so the scent of the splash still remains. I also find the balms help seal up any minor cuts...sometimes I won't even notice a micro weeper until the splash goes on.

my post shave routine is this; i reapply lather and let it sit while i rinse my bowl and brush, then wash my face off, turn the water to cold and throw my wash cloth under it, while that soaks i dry my face and apply some witch hazel, then i gently squeeze out the wash cloth then apply to my face, soak and apply a couple times, a splash of witch hazel, go and get ready(brush teeth, dress, and such), then i splash some aftershave into my palm, rub my hands together, rub all over my face. then sometimes ill apply a little more AS to known problem areas or just go on with my day. it works for me, i apply my AS dry, as water dilutes the affect, plus ive come to like the burn of my AS.

after your shave when you`ve rinsed your face off with water then just put some AS all over your shaved face area.
