What Handle Did You Use Today?

Original handle on this vintage Merkur 41

I would really enjoy this handle if it wasn't rotting away. The plated brass head is more efficient than my equivalent recent-production 15C head.

Grippy ribbing, good length and taper, slight 'knob' at the bottom. An excellent design undermined by Zinc and Time.

DSC AX Ti 1.55 on DSC Ti Pioneer handle

An all titanium razor/handle combination. Both are highly polished and the Pioneer handle has no knurling. Instead it has circular indents which allow the fingers to comfortably rest and provide grip that way. It's also a handle which is a bit wider at 14mm (iirc). It's a bit heavier than thinner titanium handles but it balances the very light weight of the AX Ti head out very nicely. It's a great handle in terms of looks and functionality.

Ikon X3 Slant on custom Ti handle

This is a custom Ti handle made by a guy who primarily makes Ti pencils, pens and fountain pens. The lighting in this picture isn't very good; the handle is a dark- matte color and not that concrete-grey you see here. It's rather large with a length of 96mm and a width of 14.8 mm, but weight is only 51g. It fits quite well with the matte color of the Ikon X3, and that's the reason I bought it. The handle has good balance, and I do like its larger width. The grip section is also very well done and the razor never felt slippery. Overall, very nice workmanship on this handle.

I've been using a Goodwill #160 with it's 25g ball-end handle. I wanted to try a lighter handle & see how that impacted the shave, so today I used a 20g common bar handle today. The common bar is not standard with the Goodwill #160 but I wanted to try it anyway to see how the lighter handle performed. With the 5g lighter handle the razor become head heavy & was not as balanced or nimble/responsive as the 25g ball end handle.

Shield AC stainless steel, custom Ti handle (matte)

I picked up this matte titanium handle recently and thought it would match well with the Shield AC stainless steel head. The larger size, width and weight of the handle matched quite well with the AC head and worked like a charm. I might use this combination a bit more often in the future as I had a lovely shave this morning.
