Razor: Gillette Superspeed (A1)
Blade: Elios Inoxidable (1)
Brush: Trigodon - Fortitudinem a Leonis
Soap: Wholly Kaw - King of Oud
A/S: Wholly Kaw - King of Oud After Shave Splash
EdP: Tom Ford - Oud Wood

This was a very nice Monday morning shave with this Superspeed and the Elios blade. I made a three pass shave with some pickups and got a nice DFS+. I did have two small superficial weepers. One was due to too much pressure and the other one due to an unintended J-Hook. Other than that it was a trouble free shave. The WK soap and aftershave are new to me. Both performed exceptionally well, especially the soap is easy to lather into a divinely smelling creamy consistency. Glide and cushion are amazing and post-shave feel outstanding. This was a good start into the week.

Is it swell time?
Gents,

I just want to say that it’s not even a week since we started, yet what a week it’s been! Amazing gear from all, great spirit and definitely vicariously enjoying a lot of shaves!

So thank you all for already making this a superb event! And we still have three more weeks to go!! Whohoo!!

Today’s shave 4/7/25:

Vintage April shave #4

Pre-Shave: Hot Water
Soap: B&M Seville
Brush: Omega 48 Boar
Bowl: Plastic Liveben
Razor: Gillette Slim
Blade: Gillette Vintage (2)
After-Shave: Myrsol K

Song of the Shave: Jingle Jangle Jingle by Kay Kyser

Rating: 8.5 CCS

Not a bad shave tonight, I just made the mistake of being too aggressive. Some weepers and the blade wasn’t working with me so it caught the bin after. I’ve had some irritation building so I’m going down to 2 passes for a bit. Have a great Monday!

I'm a bit of a sucker for an adjustable. The second generation Mikron was in production from 1951 until 1958. Far more aggressive than a Merkur Progress, I've found that the trick is to let the angle of the top cap religiously guide you to the proper shaving angle. Any steeper and there's a decent risk of cutting yourself. I set it to 5 for a very efficient first pass, then back to 3 for a second pass ATG. Pairing extremely well with the 7 O'Clock Super Platinum this morning it delivered a truly outstanding shave.

Gillette contract Tech..made in USA, aluminium base plate and handle.
ToOBS lime zest cream
Omega mini boar
GSB blade
One of my favourite razors. Classic pre war Tech in a rather industrial all black finish. Stick a good sharp blade in it and enjoy a satisfyingly close, trouble free shave. Were these military issued razors? Has a basic charm about it and I would imagine lots got chucked away due to its budget looks. Not budget results though.
Still marble smooth at lunchtime.

I went with a split shave matching a Tech against a Super Adjustable today. The Tech was clearly the "everyman's razor" of its day. Inexpensive to make, easy to use, hard to nick yourself with, and it shaved close enough. I loaded it with a 7'Oclock Black, which provided a reasonable DFS shave in mine, with not a lot of facial impact. That said, this razor would definitely benefit from a sharper blade.

The Super Adjustable 84 was another story. My process with adjustables is to start with an ATG pass with a neutral or slightly positive exposure. Then I take a second pass going between ATG and XTG at a moderate exposure (to get to a DFS+/BBS- face). Finally, I go after stragglers with an aggressive exposure. I did that here and was rewarded with a BBS shave (settings of "4", "6" and "8"), with not much facial impact. The 7'Oclock Black was an excellent blade for that razor.

Vintage April shave #4.
NDC 49-51? Gillette super speed. It has “Pat. Nos. On Package”
Gillette 7o’clock blade (2nd shave)
Proraso blue with azure lime balm.
Seems more aggressive that other Gillette's from this time frame but still a wonderful shave.

I am trying to mix up for vintage April. I am however looking forward to getting back to my Jnat straight edges. Haha
