@Guido75 , Permission to come aboard sir! I didn't realize it was Vintage April so I'm a bit late to the party as usual. But seeing as how I'm in a bit of a vintage mode right now, it seemed only right that I jump in on this.

3/31/25

Pre:
Shower, Warm water splash, PAA The Cube
Razor: Star 100
Blade: Gillette 7'oclock Super Platinum (3)
Brush: Vulfix 403B "Mayfair"
Soap: Mama Bear's - Ye Olde Barbershoppe
Post: Lukewarm rinse, Thayers
Splash: Floid The Genuine

The Star 100. A superb razor that I'm quite taken with at the moment. It seems to do what the Tech does but with more "finesse". The head feels quite different, having a thinner cap/shallower angle that really nails the smooth/efficient sweet spot. I dunno how they did it, but they did. Many people also love the weightier handle on these which feels great in hand.

Is it swell time?
You brought the shavers equivalent of the teacher’s apple with you! Nice Pal/Star razor! Glad you could join the fun! Welcome!

Thank you sir, excited to be part of this cohort today! Nice little group you've put together for this event; I shall try my best to hold up my end along with the other new-hires. :cuppa:

Today’s shave 4/3/25:

Vintage April Shave #2

Pre-Shave: Hot Water Splash
Soap: Fougère Bouquet Wholly Kaw
Brush: Captain's Choice Badger
Bowl: Fine Shave Bowl
Razor: Gillette Slim
Blade: Gillette Vintage Blade
After-Shave: Clubman Special Reserve
Post-Shave: Nivea Sensitive Balm

Song of the Shave: Pistol Packin' Mama by Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters

Rating: 9 CCS

A vintage blade for Vintage April. An interesting pairing, but one that has stood the test of time. A #5 setting across the board for my 3 passes, maybe a bit too aggressive as I should have dropped it down to a 3 for the last pass. A few weepers and hopefully no tetanus! The blades had some discoloration, but that is expected with age. A closer shave than normal, but that was at the cost of a few weepers. The aftershave had some sting today but wasn't bad. Overall, it was a really good shave with the vintage blades!

Vintage April Shave #4
Early model from Sheffield's Darwin made entirely from their patented high-speed cobalt steel. I've had something of a troubled relationship with this razor. The head reminds me of the later and relatively mild Eclipse Red Ring - but in this case amped all the way up to 11. It's not so much the aggression I mind as the tendency for it to extract blood at the slightest opportunity. Loads of concentration required to keep the perfect angle, but this morning was easily the best shave I've ever got from it. Best shave of the month so far.

Gillette New Short Comb
Lord Chrome
TFS crema purissima per barba
Proraso rinfrescante
Culmak Junior

The Gillette New series are amongst my favourite shavers.
I think if I had to pick between the SC and LC this SC might just edge out as being a wee bit better.
It just delivers such a smooth and close shave that I find almost nothing can match this experience.
The Lambda Ares for me was very close, so close even that I sold it. Because I already have 2 New razors. I saw no point in owning one that costs 4 times the value of a lovely vintage specimen, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.

If your Super Adjustable does indeed bear a date code of Q3, it would be highly unusual and rare and should be dated as 1971. Double check the code. Gillette usually skipped Q as a date code, except on rare occasions. There is a very interesting post HERE on Q as a date code.
