Is it swell time?
Bill I think the merit for the 7 day sets is on the honing/stropping process. If you have 7 razors you can use them for daily shaving and then once a week give them an a strop so they are ready for next week. At least that’s what I can come up with.

This forum has been incredibly valuable to me as I re-entered the realm of wet shaving, coming off of 20-ish years of electric shaving.

The many Journals I have perused have not only been educational in and of themselves, but have also led me to invaluable information that has shaped my shaving routine. Three threads in particular have shown me the error of my ways and steered me down the path of pleasant and efficient shavery; so much so that I have linked them in my signature block.

The Four Pass Shave: brilliant in its simplicity, resulting in more comfortable BBS shaves than the DFS shaves I was getting.

Foolproof Lather Discovery Process: while I haven't stopped face lathering, this opened the world of bowl lathering up to me.

The Marco Method: perfection in face lathering and it works with any soap.

A tip of the hat to @guenron, @JCinPA, and @Marco for the original posts. I hope you don't mind me linking your threads, but, they need to be shared.

Tried something new yesterday and place it among the top seven of my life's regrets: The Daily Double.

To be clear, I am fascinated by the idea of using two razors for different passes/areas of the face; I simply, as I am inclined to do, made bad choices. With proper razor selection, this would doubtlessly be a very enjoyable addition to my routine. My foolhardy attempt is not meant to disparage the process, it is solely a reflection on my own pitiful attempt.

I used a Feather Artist Club DX Kamisori with a Protouch MG blade for my first N-S pass and it was, to quote a former President, a bloodbath. Poor technique, certainly, but I was bleeding from places that I have never nicked before, including one errant swipe under my right eye. The areas that weren't bleeding were simply raw. My subsequent pass with the ultra-mild Blackbird Ti Lite were very uncomfortable, forcing me to abandon the shave after one additional pass. I was able to stop the bleeding without medical intervention, but, it was touch-and-go there for a while. Alum feedback? You have no idea.

I woke up with red blotches on my upper lip, chin, and neck, as well as an overall tenderness on my neck.

HOWEVER... at the suggestion of my lovely wife, I applied some of her... now MY... Aloderma Aloe Vera Gel this morning, and what a relief it was. Redness, for the most part, subsided within 15 minutes or so and it no longer hurts to smile. Plus, the skin feel in undamaged areas (there are one or two) is amazing. I'm going to try it after a normal shave to see what it's like on something other than raw chopped meat.

MUCH better today. Sliced the top off of one nick from yesterday, but, all in all, an excellent shave. I debated skipping today, but, I was a bit overgrown from the abandoned butchery yesterday.

For some months, I've had a 1963 I4 Slim sitting in my drawer. I'd more or less forgotten it.

Recalling it today, I decided to give it a first run with a once-used Lab Blue. Being cautious, I started at Setting 3, but could barely tell there was a blade in it. After a couple of swipes, I bumped it up to Setting 4.

Did two passes, N-S and S-N, buffing my chin and jawline, all in a W-E direction. I was rewarded with an enjoyable, comfortable, slightly less than DFS. I think Setting 5 or 6 will be my sweet spot, at least for my first pass.

I must confess, this was a truly fun shave for me. The razor is my birth year and quarter, which is what led me to buy it. Why I delayed using it is beyond me.

I'm seriously impressed by the Slim. Setting 5 was so smooth but efficient on my beard. I have no doubt this could be an every day shaver... just as efficient but a bit smoother even than the Blackbird Titanium Lite. I was a bit concerned that the head wouldn't get under my nose, but, no problem.

Our grandson has his final Flag Football League game for the season today, so, I had an earlier-than-usual shave. While I will always prefer late afternoon shaves, this one was quite good, following a lovely breakfast made by Grammy Anne (I got a break from cooking).

Before breakfast, I also got in a tough 45 minutes on the Peloton.

Still loving the Slim (this one is an I3, my birth year and quarter). It delivers consistently good shaves and allows me to tweak the gap between passes as needed. A wonderful tool, truly.

Cheers, gents!
