Morning Shave - 04/03/25
Shave Number:

Passes: 3
Razor: Muhle R41
Blade: Tatara Platinum (White) (4)
Soap: MdC Agrumes
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft RR400
Aftershave: Clubman Lustray Blue Spice
Shave Comfort: 9/10 (Tightness)
Shave Quality: 9.5/10 (DFS++)
Shave Rating: 9.25/10
Another close shave by the R41, but I did end up with some post shave skin tenderness. This blade is definitely on the the way out. We will see if I need to toss this one. I will go for another shave with it and see. Plenty good shave otherwise.

4/4/2025 Perma-Sharp Blade 3 Shave #1

  • Soap: Proraso White
  • Brush: Jequil & Corenveo
  • Bowl: Captain's Choice
  • Razor: Tatara Masamune
  • Blade: Perma-Sharp
  • Balm: Nivea

On to blade 3 of the Perma-Sharps. It feels good to have a fresh, sharp blade after yesterday's shave with the previous blade.

This was a morning shave with super cold New Hampshire tap water, a bracing start to the day.

The brush is a cheap Amazon purchase from some time ago. I rarely use it, and it isn't my favorite (although the handle is nice). Still, it got the job done.

The Perma-Sharp blade worked really well with my Tatara razor and produced a relaxing shave with excellent results.

A good start to the day.

Morning Shave - 04/04/25

Razor: Muhle R41
Blade: Tatara Platinum (White) (5)
Soap: MdC Agrumes

Aftershave: Clubman Special Reserve
Shave Comfort: 10/10 (Smooth)
Shave Quality: 9/10 (DFS+)
Shave Rating: 9.5/10
Solid shave this morning. It might not have been the closest shave that I have had, but it was a comfortable one and I will take that any day. Looks like I will barely squeak using this blade for a whole week in the R41. It is declining...

4/5/2025 Perma-Sharp Blade 3 Shave #2

I changed things a little today: the brush, soap, and switched to the open comb baseplate on my razor.

  • Soap: TFS
  • Brush: Simpson T3
  • Bowl: Captain's Choice
  • Razor: Tatara Masamune
  • Blade: Perma-Sharp
  • Balm: Nivea
The TFS soap and Simpson T3 work really well together.

The razor doesn't slide over my skin quite as smoothly with the OC plate, but the blade performed really well, and the result was an excellent shave.

As usual these days, I used only cold water.

Have a great weekend!

Finish tuck (first half) - Flydear Super Platinum

I had a much better go with this tuck than the last one. The Tech got 1 blade from this tuck. The Tech is a very light razor and sometimes it has to work harder at things. All 3 shaves did have some tugging, however the first two shaves produced DFS++ and the third gave a DFS+. There was very little irritation and only on the neck and it didn't last.

I'm still trying to dial in the Progress for this blade. I usually have it set to 4 and the first blade would only do DFS+, maybe ++, but there was definite feedback during the three shaves. Coming around to the second blade (after a round with the Weber and the Tech) the first shave I started at 4 again. Got a DFS++ but still seemed too much "bite". Lowered the next one to 3.5, got DFS++ but still too much. Third shave was at 3, got DFS++ and I think that this might be the setting moving forward - it needs a less aggressive gap. We'll see next time the Flydear is up.

The Weber, however, well, let's just say that this just might truly be the razor for this blade. First blade, first shave with 1.5 day's growth - DFS++. Second shave, again 1.5 day's growth - DFS++, borderline BBS- without even trying. Third shave did give me a weeper with some tugging but still DFS++.

Now, the second blade first shave in the Weber was magical. I don't know how it happened, or why. I didn't check the planetary alignments; I didn't do anything different that I could tell. Maybe the shave gods had sympathy for me because I have been battling the Flu for the past week. But shave Nirvana took place. Every stroke on every pass seemed to glide with precision. No tugging, no irritation. The final clean-up pass was barely needed. And except for this one tiny spot on my neck which is impossible to knock down no matter which direction I attack it from (it is the "stubble vortex"), my face was glass smooth. BBS- (stupid vortex). I had witnessed and touched the Unicorn. The other two shaves were DFS++, which, I'm like, after the other shave you darn well better be DFS++! You are not allowed to be anything less than that!
