Alrighty then! Well it went from an irritated BBS yeasterday to a non-irritated wonderful BBS this morning! What a great shave. Smooth and wonderful. The difference you might ask. Riding the cap! Let's do this again tomorrow!

I have also found that the Superspeed is a much better shaver when riding the cap. I wasn't able to pulling a BBS with it though, but I came close once. I'll have much more shaves with it in Vintage April and I'm sure that it'll reveal all its secrets then. 😉

Razor: Mühle R89, Traditional Rose Gold
Blade: Derby Premium (2/5)(2)
Brush: Arno 26mm, Manchurian 2-band badger, Jade Palace
Soap: Wholly Kaw - Inizio (sample)
Aftercare: Thayer's Witch Hazel Unscented
A/S: Pinaud Clubman - Special Reserve (decant)
EdP: Tom Ford - Lost Cherry

Well, this was an "okay" shave. Nothing special. I tried to push for DFS+, but couldn't get past a DFS result with this razor/blade combination. And by the end of the third pass it was time to pack it in. No point in chasing a better shave when the reward is irritation. After all the R89 is a very mild razor and not a very efficient one. But, it can deliver good results if paired with a sharp blade.

Oh yes I had another great shave with it this morning riding the cap as well. Not BBS but very close. It is the way of this razor.

Another great shave from the SuperSpeed. Yep riding the cap is the secret for me and this razor. What a difference a change in technique will make. Razor, blade and lather working in perfect unison. Fantastic!

Not quite as close as previous shave, but still a pleasant shave. Lather could probably stand a bit more hydration, but overall a very respectable shave.

Tuck at a Time Preview

Ok. I’m starting Tuck at a Time. Some of the details:

I’ve recently decided to be a three-and-done shaver. That is based on Astra SP. This may fluctuate with different blades. At this time I shave on alternate days, so two days of growth; I shave with individual razors twice, then cycle to the next razor in my collection.

I’m working through a modest stock of blades: it’s two cartons and a short list of individual tucks. Carton 1 is 200 Derby Extra blades, Carton 2 is 100 Rockwell blades. At this time, I plan to use only the duplicate 5-blade tucks of my individual tucks; there are four of them.

I will be alternating one each of Derby and Rockwell tucks with one of the individual 5-blade tucks. The Derby are 10-blade tucks but I’ll be using them 5 blades at a time, and treating that as a 5-blade tuck.

I have three blades left in a Derby tuck. I’ll start with those and then continue with full 5-blade tucks. I think that will be a nice way to slide into this funny new affair. According to my scheduled plan, this modest start will take 408 days. This is going to take a while. Cool.

Thanks Boris.

Welcome aboard the TaaT train!

I’ve recently decided to be a three-and-done shaver.
I have come to the same conclusion. I don't try to push anything past three shaves anymore. Some brands are borderline 2 and out with the possibly of 3 if I am feeling magnanimous, and Voskhod blades are absolutely one-and-done for me.

The Derby are 10-blade tucks but I’ll be using them 5 blades at a time, and treating that as a 5-blade tuck.
While I don't use Derby's, I also break 10-blade tucks into 2 5-blade ones for the sake of TaaT. That allows me to rotate through my different brands and not get bored staying on a single tuck for a month.

Indeed welcome to the TaaT crew! This is where tucks come to meet their end. I have found myself learning so much more regarding the blades using this method. Yeah it is certainly not glamorous, but it works well. Looks like you have a den that is already in pretty good order. Myself I have a lot of miscellaneous tucks that needs to be used up from old sample packs etc. before I can dig into the packs. Anyways again, welcome! We are glad to have you join us.

Razor: Yaqi Mellon
Blade: Derby Premium (2/5)(3)
Brush: Arno 26mm, G5, Classic #12
Soap: Shavologist - Baddie
A/S: Twoface Brothers - Original after shave lotion
EdT: Bleu de Chanel

This was the last shave with this Derby Premium blade. While I found that this blade isn't a bad blade per se, it is more at home in more aggressive razors. In the Yaqi Mellon it provided for a DFS shave in three passes. Good enough, but not top- level performance. I have some more aggressive razors planned for next week. It'll be interesting to see whether my hypothesis holds water - that the Derby Premium is not a blade for mild razors.

Nice close shave this morning without irritation. Lather was better this morning with more hydration. Smooth and pleasant shave just the way it is supposed to be.

Alright! I am very down for this! I have many tucks laying around open! I also have some unopened. Ironically I will start by opening a new tuck of a blade I have never tried before and then using that tuck until it is finished. After that I will move on to the tucks that are open and lined up for me in my shave den. I need to get rid of all these tucks and learn each blade. Every tuck will be used with the exception of the wilkinson sword gillette chinese version!

I will say that lately I have been trying to shave every day and it has caused irritation. I am moving back to shaving every other day and I have started by shaving with cold water. Shaving with a finger over an ingrown hair. Shaving with one pass ATG and XTG mapping my growth.

Night shave+hot shower
PAA cube
PAA blue moon bay rum shave soap
Karve Bison razor
7AM platinum durablade
Pacific Shaving Co Caffeinated Aftershave Balm
9/10 shave
this blade is good middle of the road kind of blade. Middle of the road smooth middle of the road sharp. Not the smoothest. Probably more sharp than it is smooth. ATG 1 pass. XTG in certain areas around chin. mild irritation. I have the most sensitive skin in the world but overall a good shave. It feels great to get rid of the stubble.

Welcome to TaaT! You situation sound very familiar to me before I started this thread. Something had to change. I had blades everywhere.

It is a bummer to hear about your irritation lately. Hopefully you can get that resolved and just have shaving goodness. Again welcome to TaaT. We are glad to have you join us.

Razor: Mühle Rocca R95
Blade: Derby Premium (3/5)(1)
Brush: Zenith synthetic
Soap: Noble Otter - Logbook
A/S: Declaration Grooming - Daemon Aftershave Splash
EdP: Byredo - Oud Immortel

A new and fresh Derby Premium for the start of the week. Great shave in the R95 today with a DFS++ result in 3 passes (WTG, WTG, ATG). I have a few stragglers left along the chinline, but still had a smooth and comfortable shave. The Rocca worked beautifully on two days of growth with no nicks, weepers or irritation. Great start into the week.

That must have been the best shave I have had in a very long time!. It was so slick, wonderful and easy. I used a pre shave soap for the first time and I have to say that it made a difference. Fantastic shave and a great end to a week with the SuperSpeed.

Not quite as comfortable shave as the previous one. I could tell that this was a fresh blade and I have to be a bit more careful not to stir up any irritation. Still I had a close shave.
