Razor: Rocnel Sailor
Blade: Nacet
Brush: Captains Custom synthetic Fiber
Bowl: Captains Choice Commander
Pre-shave: Proraso Blue Protective
Soap: SV 80th Anniversary
Aftershave: SV 80th Anniversary

The Rocnel Sailor is the most beautiful of the adjustables in my den. It's been a while since I used it last so I set it on 2 for a head shave. One pass WTG. Turned it down to 1 for a single pass ATG, a little buffing and done. I forgot how well this razor shaves. It certainly has a different feel. Efficient and smooth. Hold a light touch and let the heft of the razor do the work. For the face shave I left the setting on 1 since I have been face shaving daily and just looking for a mild shave tonight. One pass each WTG, ATG and XTG and done. Nice close shave. No drama. No nicks or irritation and BBS. 10/10 :pipe:

I love that brush. I hav one too. I also have a similar bowl but mine is the rustic colour. I like the gold bowl in the pics I’ve seen.

Is your sailor an MC?

Awesome pics.

Why did you buy all five colours lol? I’ve just bought a CaYuen Diablo. Can’t wait for that.
Honestly I really like the unique artisan look and feel of their bowls. I like variety and try to use a different one each shave. One of them I won in the Captains PIF. The small travel size was more about convenience. I only use it when in a hurry and only for a quick face shave where I don't need much lather. The regular size bowls I find perfect for just the right amount of lather for combining a head and face shave. That and I have a case of RAD that is not limited to razors alone

Haha I feel you with the RAD. I’m looking forward to trying the Cayuen.
so based on your rad, what’s your fave modern razor, brush, blade, bowl and soap?

The whole idea of RAD is that its hard to narrow down to just one of anything . If I had to pick today.

Razor: Osprey Titanium. Best all around performer. Efficient and smooth. It can be really mild to very aggressive. With a range of 1 - 9 it probably has the most adjustability of any razor on the market. (For beauty alone. The Sailor. Hands down.)

Brush: Captains Choice synthetic. Soft with just the right amount of backbone that works for head shaves as well as face shaves. Drys quickly and it can be used daily. Good looking and reasonably priced.

Blade: Perm-Sharp. Best all around performer that works well in any of my razors. Sharp but comfortable on the skin and it complements the wide range of settings in the Osprey.

Bowl: Captains Choice Commander. With the raised ridges on the bottom it makes great lather with any soap and its pretty.

Soap: Any Saponificio Varesino. All the scents are uniquely different. Great cushion and lubricity. Makes fantastic lather. Love the way it makes my skin feel post shave. Nicely hydrated and soft.

Love it, thank you for the detailed reply! I agree with a few choices there

Going to try and shave tonight with my Rocnel Sailor 2024.

I’ll follow the tips to ride the cap. Currently have an astra loaded, but also have Gillette silver blue and feathers if they are better for this razor?

Any blade recommendations?

I think I might have had the cap on the wrong way. I’ve now got the rocnel logo focussing away from the point by the numbers.

I can now get the numbers to start just past zero, whereas they were previously on setting 4 with the razor completely closed due to the cap being on the wrong way.

Hopefully this works out better.

Any tips on what number range to shave with? Wtg and atg etc?

Thanks!

I enjoyed a much better shave tonight now I have the cap on the right way!

After a hot shower I used an astra blade, Noble Otter Manoi de Tahiti, Captains Choice Obsiden bowl, and a synthetic from AP. Nivea sensitive after shave balm.

I used setting 4 to mow down three day growth, then dialed down to 3 and 2 wtg and atg.

My face is super smooth to touch now

i need to try the zero dot setting for the under my chin and on the edge atg, and the bottom of my neck which are still rough to touch, but otherwise it was a nice shave.

Made a good change from my Rex Konsul XL.

The Rocnel is a beautiful razor and looks wonderful when wet from under the tap. I look forward to experimenting with it more.

A properly fitted Rocnel Cap should be as follows: you look at the cap directly from its forehead and the Rocnel inscription should be visible as it is read and the handle marking, anchor or point should point upwards.

As for the shaving setting, you have to try it out. Many factors have an impact on this, such as the hardness of the beard, the thickness and direction of the skin's sensitivity, what razor blade is used (I am currently testing razor blades, I have a dozen or so companies and I am testing them, but it will take some time, but I already have my favorites), how often you shave, daily or every now and then, everyone is different, etc. So start more gently, maybe from 2 and see how the shave goes, are you happy with it and test it or upwards more aggressively or more gently with a lower setting. But you will see, after the third time you will master it more or less, and then you will specify the details and it will be great.

Glad you are getting a better shave. Yeah figuring out the cap orientation seems to be a right of passage 🙂. The Sailor shave is pretty efficient and can feel a bit different than other razors. (In a good way). I prefer the Sailor over the Konsul. Start mild and work your way up. I find that the 2 setting on the Sailor is about 2-3 on the Konsul. I tend to like mild to mild-agressive razors because I head shave. I'll start at 2 with the Sailor and dial down to 1 for ATG depending on the head or face or number of days growth. I can use 3 if a fews days growth then dial back. Give it a few shaves and once you dial in the settings you find its a wonderful shave.

Nice, I usually use 6 on the Konsul for a first pass, then setting 4 for other passes ….. guess I like that aggressive feel lol
