Society of Artisanal Shave Soap -- S.A.S.S.

I am in. Top tallow for me is Mikes Natural. Top vegan is Napa Soap Ocean Blend. Most of the soaps I use are artisan soaps.

Same here most top soaps I use are artisan made...QCS, Strop Shoppe, Mamma Bear, MdC, PannaCrema. The only notable exceptions are Cella and Tabac.

Let us know how it works. If olive oil is the 2nd ingredient it may not perform well.

You were correct... it did not perform well :thumbdown

I needed to load the brush heavily and work the lather for a long time before it came alive, and even then it felt too light and airy! The lather also vanished after it had been sat on my face longer than 3 seconds. I didn't even shave with it because it looked & felt so bad!

On the positive side; I now have 2 new shower soaps that are great smelling and very moisturising!

Can anyone recommend any GOOD artisan soaps in Europe??? Thanks

Seifenglatt has some HTGAM still in stock. They also stock some big name American artisan products.

Maybe also try Nanny's Silly Soap. I've heard good things.

It's amazing how many quality artisanal soaps are out there now. Obviously demand is driving it. Will we someday outnumber the multi-bladed/canned goo faction?

Isn't Calani located in Germany? Her soaps make superb lather and has a bunch of scents that are very nice. I really enjoy the oriental plum!

Hi,

I wound up using Carden Farms vegetable glycerine shaving soap over a decade ago. I was just wandering thru the NC State Fair and spotted it. Of course, that particular farm has many different soaps, but seeing they made pucks of shaving specific soap to fit the orphaned Old Spice mugs was 'it' for me!

These days, I face lather with a vintage tallow soap from Oster, but it is really not as slippery as I like. So, I still mix it up with the Carden Farms soap, which is very slippery. I like the mix the best, but if I had only one soap to shave with, it would be the Carden Farms.

In fact, I just saw them yesterday at the fair, still making tons of soap every year. Their farm is some 30 miles North of Raleigh, and mine is some 30 miles South, so the only time we see each other is at the State Fair.

So, I am in!

Stan

I don't use a lot of soaps, mostly a cream kinda guy. That being said, when I do use soaps, it's going to be Mundus. Nice seller on Etsy making a high quality soap with some great scents. You owe it to yourself to check it out.

MilkyLee... you the man! I might start with The Oriental Plum. Thanks buddy

Your more than welcome! Back a while ago everybody was talking about Calani and the Oriental Plum, but now it doesn't get much attention. No one in the US carries it anymore so the next time I order some I will get around 8 pucks to make the shipping worth, but she has enough great scents it won't be hard to find 8 I like.

No mention of Jabonman yet...WHAT??? The Ylang-Ylang is my go to and everyday soap and I always have a back-up tin also... I use the B&M Seville on occasion also.
Jabonman it's from Barcelona, Spain and Manuel is one of the nicest fellas you'd ever wanna deal with!!!

I hope the Single Action Shooting Society doesn't go for ya for copyright infringement. They're a pretty big deal...:wink2: $images (1).jpg$images.jpg

As I have stated earlier, I am an "artisan" even though I don't sell my soap. I made a soap I call the "Tallow Killer" and I would like to PIF four pucks (100g ish) to anyone who meets the requirements. My intent is to encourage others who are in the shaving hobby to pick up the shave soap hobby as well. They seem to go hand in hand to me. It's a simple croap recipe with five ingredients. The ingredients are all vegy w/no tallow or olive oil. The scent is a barber shop type and I do use Tetrasodium EDTA and BHT (butylated hydoxytoluene). EDTA is a chelating agent to capture minerals in water; BHT is an edible preservative in food (keeps soap fresh). The vegy ingredients are shea butter, palm kernal oil, and stearic acid.

PIF requirements:

1. Seriously interested in making homemade shave soap
2. Experienced wet shaver straight or double edge shaver (I'm talking 1+years with either tool)
3. Prefer soap to cream (this will be a "croap")
4. Not another artisan soap maker
5. Willing to wait two weeks for soap to cure before shipping.

I enjoy wet shaving and I enjoy my soap making; so, I wanted to share with like minded gents/ladys. I wanted to give back to this community (Badger and Blade) which has given to me a lot of valuable information. I am sorry that I cannot give out more soap; maybe in the future. I have attached two pictures to show that I am true soap making hobbyist.

The first four replies to this post who qualify and say "I'm in" win.
I will pay for all shipping and everything; it's a PIF after all. The winners only need to send me a shipping address through PM. I have attached two pictures showing my cream (pr0n) and my drying rack as proof that I am just a hobbyist. Again, Badgerandblade has given to me and I want to give back.

Sure I am in I have always wanted to make soap it's kind of a daunting task plus I have no idea where to buy lye or the chemicals needed for the breaking down of oils and fats. Thanks for the opertunity I have never used a artisanal croap!

I'm in. I've wanted to make soap for awhile. My mom has made her own soap (cold process) for as long as I can remember and I've been trying to convince her to work with me on making a shave soap.

Count me in! I've started sourcing ingredients and what not, but have yet to make my first batch. It'd be awesome to preview the possibilities

@madmax20 - send me your shipping address via pm and you'll be first. Making soap can be daunting at first; however, once you get the hang of it, it is no big deal. My creation is "cooking" now as I type. I hope you enjoy it. This formula is unique compared to what I have seen or read either by professional and/or amateur soap makers. I used it and was surprised how much I liked it over my other formulas. The nice thing about making your own soap is you get to choose what you want as far as scent & texture. I have used tallow, lard, palm, and others; however, this has been my best so far. That is one reason I decided to share it with the community. It may not be the best for everyone (ymmv); however, I know it works for me nicely.
