Society of Artisanal Shave Soap -- S.A.S.S.

I really only use two commercial soaps in my Rotation. MWF and Tabac, the rest are all Stirling and St Charles Shave products. I could really even dump the MWF and Tabac and still be happy. I'm in

Unless someone says they like Mystic Waters. Apparently it sends a bat signal out to gather all those who've ever had a problem lathering it. Likewise if someone mention Mike's, all those who felt wronged at having to wait a week or two get a psychic vibe and have to join in.

I rather like Mystic Waters and have no problem lathering it. I did not care for Mike's as I could never get anything other than a mediocre lather regardless of brush or technique. I sold the puck of Mike's to someone and even continued for a while after to get the sample of Hungarian Lavender I had to whip up into something worthwhile....didn't happen. As a result, that sample became the FIRST ever item of shave items that I actually threw away. Just wasn't in the cards for me I guess. Now I will wait for that psychic vibe.......

So YMMV! The Hungarian Lavender is my favorite soap!

Nothing draws as much skepticism as MWF or Arko tho...they're essentially the Republicans and Democrats of the Shave Soap world...

I Am in my only non artisan soap is Poraso and a couple tubes of bigelow. Really like all artisan soaps and have soaps from Mikes, Striling, Mystic, Barrister and Mann, Strop Shoppe, and a couple of tubs of Al's. I also have some Panna coming.

I'm in! I pretty much use all artisan soaps with the exception of Tabac (!). I really appreciate what these artisans do to bring us some amazing soaps.

I love the sheer amount of variety available in artisan shave soaps. I've got mystic waters, strop shoppe, mike's and qcs in my shave soap library and have some synergy and b&m on the way... Maybe I should be seeing someone about SSAD....

anyway, I'd love to join this group!

I'm new here, but a long time soaper and soaping teacher, over 20 years. So, Yeah, I'd like to be associated with SASS.

Mama Bear is my everyday soap. I don't have a different soap for each day of the month but I would if I could afford it.

I'm in! I have tried: QCS, Mike's, Mama Bear, Honeybee, Al's (technically a cream, but still...). And I have 4 pucks on order from Stirling. The only commercial product I've tried is KMF will be trying Speick cream soon.

Looking at my shave den, almost everything I have fits this category: Mike's, Barrister & Mann, QCS, Strop Shoppe, Synergy, Petal Pusher Fancies and L.A. Shaving Company. Even MdC fits the description, as it's certainly not a mass produced product. I love them all.

Some of my best soap is artisanal.

Mama Bears Dublin Tweed- great performer, excellent, clean scent
Mikes Barbershop- sweet smell, great lather
Mystic Waters Adirondack Jack- perfect fall scent, slick and protective

Just ordered 2 handmade cold process soaps from a seller on Etsy. Cedar Wood and Bay Rum, there was also a liquorice, but that was sold out :thumbdown Ingredients - Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, Vitamin E oil, Bentonite Clay, Tumeric Powder, Essential Oils

Hopefully will have some feedback on the performance and scents soon.

Let us know how it works. If olive oil is the 2nd ingredient it may not perform well.

I make my own shave soap and only use it now; I don't sell it. I do appreciate others who do it and have learned a lot from them. So I am in!
