So I ditched the bowl

I have always been a face lather-er. Tried a couple of time with a bowl but found that for slick-ness face is the way forward. as for sticks, i have only tried the palmolive stick which is a joy ... even more so considering the cost in the UK is 59p!!!:w00t:

I just started face lathering some. I like it because it is faster and I don't have to clean a bowl after. But I have two problems with it 1) I use a bit more soap it seems because for the 2nd pass I have to pick up a bit more from the puck and 2) I make more of a mess with it. I get water and soap all over my hands and sink.

I had to ditch the bowl as I was running out of room in the den...

I always thought it was quite peculiar that you would want to create a lather in a bowl and then "paint" it on your face. Face lathering just seems more efficient and utilizes the brush to the fullest degree.

I quit using a bowl to lather too, but I use mostly boar brushes and find that they can irritate my face if I try to whip up too much lather there. Now I load the brush from stick or bowl and palm lather. Seems to work more quickly than the bowl (more texture I guess), and when I'm done I use the handful of lather (and whatever foam's spilling out of the mug), as an initial base coat before the brush.

a bowl is okay for experimenting with various ‘mixes’ or uber-lather, but i feel it is just one more thing to clean up. I can easily “ditch the bowl” as i never used a mixing bowl until i started viewing this site last november. I had always face lathered since the 70’s, and i still prefer to face lather with soaps, creams, and sticks… something about the brush ‘working’ the skin as you build the lather that makes for a much more comfortable shave imho.

Free the brush, and your mind will follow.

No bowl, more soul.

You're making lather, not beating eggs, no need for a bowl!
