What's new

Slantember 2024

Hi,

I'm always In. I use a Slant every day. Over the years, I have has several slant models, and the one I settled on is the Fasan DoubleSlant.

I have two. One with the plastic top cap and one with the metal top cap. Does that mean I am in twice?

I have changed the handles, though.

I have had the plastic top cap one since 2013 and the metal top cap one since 2014.

That all-white version looks awesome!

SOTD: Wednesday September 4, 2024 (SLANTember 1st)
Razor: RazoRock Superslant L3++OC
Blade: Dorco Prime (3)
Brush: Omega 10005
Soap: Yardley Oatmeal & Almond

Comparing the L3OC with two other slants with which I am intimately familiar -- L2OC and Wunderbar -- I am noticing that the L3OC feels like the next logical step. Calm, efficient, predictable. I'm liking that a lot.

Sending heartfelt thanks to the amazing friend who kicked me off top-dead-centre on going up to L3!

Brief hot rag, no other prep. Testing the plate! Git 'er done.

Nacet in place, slightly slower two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline were smooth, just touched up the left jawline. As always, I touched up my neck maelstroms.

It was another bedtime shave. No drama, went a bit carefully, not for safety, just because the Nacet no longer quite so wickedly efficient. The Floïd signaled an irritation-free shave.

I plan to get a few more shaves from this razor/plate and the Nacet. So far, this daily L3++OC shaving has met my expectations. Pushing on seems in order.

If I was going to use this razor for every shave, 6 or 7 days a week, I would probably change blades after 3 or 4 shaves and generally go a step down from the Nacet. I like a number of platinum blades. They would probably form the bulk of my blade rotation.

Good prep would also be a daily requirement. No prep today - noticeable. As I write this I'm downgrading the shave to 'slight irritation'. Gotta prep!

Opted for the Timeless Slant today.

Not too shabby 👍
There seems to be a very light slant to the baseplate. Hmm... you just inspired me to read up about it.

Timeless is unlikely to make it a Ti or SS version, at least this was so far their modus operandi. I am not a fan of light weight, even Titanium is often a bit too light for me. I also like long, heavy, handles, that's just me, for everyone else lighter is usually better.

That's why I didn't take a closer look so far, but I must say I also like the knurling with finger grove separation in between handle a lot, at least going by looks! 😍

DE SOTD, Wednesday, September 4th 2024, day late, just found out another Slantember!

Razor : Yaqi SLOPE 316 SSP, Torsional slant head with a Yaqi Brass base nickel coated handle. Mfg 2022>, mild to smooth tame mid range. Excellent design, machining and finish QC. The finish is a high quality machine surface that is adequate for my shaving needs. I like slant razors and this one is smooth and gives rewarding results. Had a close comfortable shave this morning.
Blade : GSB(2) sharp and smooth with reasonable longevity. Top tier in my den.
Soap : Speick stick, nice mild spicy scent with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi"Ever helpful" 22 mm 2band badger. Excellent lather generator, pillow like soft tips, Excellent nice splay scrubber, + great lather painter. Very hard for any brush to beat this one for splay scrubbing and still have a soft face feel IMO. The knot loft is slightly shorter but dense hair knot are my observation experiences for a nice scrubbing and reasonable painter brush.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Ach Brito Lavanda with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : Dial 9.5.jpg or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers=:a17: Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Yaqi Slant razor with a GSB blade. Very enjoyable quick shave, a good razor for efficiency + smooth IMO.

Yup, there is not much twisty action going on with this one but there is enough. Personally, I don't mind a light-weight razor so the lack of heft is not an issue, plus the handle is excellent.

RazoRock Superslant L3++OC / Nacet (4)
Grooming Dept Citrus Moisturizing Pre-shave
Ach. Brito Mogno soap grated into a stick
vintage Klenzo mixed badger/boar
Dickinson witch hazel
Bimini B badger blend ala Stubblebum

IMG_6440.jpeg

Excellent Grooming Dept prep including one Mogno pre-lather and rinse.

Steady two pass and touch up. My cheeks and jawline smoothed easily, though not as swiftly as with a fresh blade. I touched up my neck maelstroms as per usual.

Witch hazel cleaned off the last slickness of soap. The Bimini B blend was very refreshing on a hot night. No irritation, so I'm just chilling and writing another shave into the books.

Shaved head and face w different slant razors today.
1: Face
Razor: Hoffritz
Blade Gillette Permasharp #5
Soap: Pre De Provence

Razor Parker Semi Slant. (I got this for last years Slantember, was on sale at @Mazon) I like it.
Blade: Gillette Plat #3
2 pass shave, close and no issues.

All in all, good shaves.....now what's next???

Cheers

Hey, I am late to Slantember this year online, but I've had five days of slant shaving (only missed September 1st).
I'm on a laptop (flip phone user), so I won't post many pictures, but I'm going to try to manage one this year.

I've been using the same setup every day, only rotating the soaps/cream.

Razors: Razorock G37 and a SLOC (always two razors for me).
Blades: BIC!!!!!!
Brush: Razorock Chubby (I really love this brush).
Soaps/Cream: Catie's Bubbles La Terra Verte, Razorock New York and Dead Sea, TOBS Mr. Taylor (twice!).

Happy Slantember to all!

Someone tell me where I left my FOCS and Wunderbar!

RazoRock Superslant L3++OC / Nacet (5)
Grooming Dept Citrus Moisturizing Pre-shave
vintage high tallow Williams Mug soap / vintage Rubberset banded boar
Dickinson's witch hazel, Pinaud Citrus Musk
IMG_6442.jpeg

Grooming Dept prep: applied, worked in, reapply right on top, worked in, once more for luck. Rinse face and the brush, load the Mug, face lather. I went very wet, as if it were an SR shave.

Good pace for the two passes and touch up. The Nacet was smoother and cutting more easily than expected. I finished my neck, a light, swift touch up did it.

Rinse, generous witch hazel splash, quick wipe, Citrus Musk for a little Pinaud sting.

Thorough prep and the cumulative effects of five daily close shaves made it smooth, easy, and fairly quick tonight.

Wunderbar @ Alpha Bravo / Nacet
WuSL24.jpg

I was closely following Slantember and already shaved but forgot to take a photo and post.

This is the Wunderbar on an Alpha Bravo handle.

It is shaving even smoother than my L3++ OC SuperSlant, in fact so smooth and at such a shallow angle that I have a hard time to guess if the razor will bite or not. The SuperSlant shaves steeper, which comes more naturally to me, I am just wired that way, and gives better feedback, I get a warning to go carefully that the Wunderbar doesn't give.

This is also the razor head I am always referring to when I say a Nacet glued it together so that I had to separate cap and plate with warm water and zippo fuel. 😁

SLANTember, Saturday Sept 7th 2024

Razor : Yaqi Top aggressive slant with a Yaqi Brass nickel coated handle. Mfg 2019>, aggressive range. Note NOT the best razor for a rookie until skill level has seasoned a little IMO. I like to use this razor every once in a while to test my technique and skill level. This razor (YTAS) when mastered gives some of the closest shaves you can possibly accomplish with a safety razor or straight razor has been my experiences because of lots of blade feel or blade exposure. I like to use a Steep approach(riding the bar) with a short handle for quicker response around the chin area and less leverage. I also use a blade shim under the primary blade for rigidity + Don't plunk this razor at start because it bites. Had a close comfortable Stellar shave this morning!
Blade : GSB (4) sharp and smooth with reasonable longevity.
Soap : Razorock Irish countryside, nice unique scent (Creed Irish green inspired) with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "Bali" 24mm 3band badger. Excellent lather generator, luxury pillow like tips, nice splay scrubber + excellent lather painter. Man did this knot bloom for a dense packed knot, still a very nice brush to work the face.
Post shave : Razorock Irish spring with witch hazel + a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : Dial 10.2 stellar.jpg or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + 2 small blemish weepers=:a17: Had a close comfortable shave this morning with my Yaqi Top aggressive Slant with a GSB blade. Great shave but a few small blemishes got sheered off(small round weepers) other than that had a stellar shave.
