Razor of the Year 2024

Iridian

Cool and slimy
I have somewhat trolled this thread from the start, but it also made me start pondering the question...

In a way it is not quite as bad as asking me what my favorite book is, or favorite book of the year.

While my all time favorites are still Timeless Slim OC and Superslant L3++ OC or Wunderbar, my razor of the year is the...

YAQI TRIFECTA

This one surprised me so positively and gave such a good shave, plus its "shim plates" system is quite ingenious, it is not only innovative, it also shaves really good, very high efficiency and fun to shave with.

Granted, the fancy new DSCosmetic Ti handles I got with it helped a lot, too.

Honorable blade mention: Suneko Amorphous Diamond. Not inexpensive, high shipping, and then they were really somehow wet/dirty when I unpacked the first blade. Not a good start.

But they turned out to shave extremely well. They kinda remind me of a better Astor, another stainless blade that wow-ed me late in the year.

For me, this is definitely the Lambda Athena Ti with a mirror polished finish.
Beautiful, sturdy, well made and most importantly, it shaves superbly.
I know that there are many titanium razors, but very few manufacturers report exactly what titanium alloy they use. This clearly indicates that in most cases, the composition is a compromise option, and not the indestructible material that people probably imagine.
With Lambda Athena, the material is clearly described - titanium grade 5, that is, the strongest, the one that is used in high technologies, such as aviation, astronautics, Formula 1, etc. This of course makes it the most difficult to process and polish, so the mirror finish makes it very special.

Considering that most of us are planning to enjoy a peaceful Christmas and a happy hopeful new year. I am nominating a razor I got from Ukraine a few months before they were invaded. I have a couple of razors that are rare, many that aren't, but this one leaves me pondering the precious nature of life and liberty. Every time I shave with it I think about all the lives lost and affected over there and how blessed we are to be here and safe.

I love your post.

I was communicating with Smart-Helix to purchase when the war broke out. Not a word since. Which is as it should be. The desire to buy is gone, but the desire to know they are well and safe remains.

Dances with Wolfs
I am late to this thread. I enjoyed reading it. And pondered my situation as of late.

2024 was an interesting year for my shaving. The SWMBO and I have been fully engrossed in the nomadic RV lifestyle for almost two years now. But in 2024, my shaving interval has widened dramatically. And my acquisitions have gone from many, to very few, if any. So much so that I have joined the 2025 sabbatical and have zero fear of failure at the moment. As a serial collector, this restraint would have been impossible just a short time ago.

My razor of the year is my Wolfman WR2 1.15 SB Stainless with a long WRH3 handle. It gives me the best efficiency and comfort combination of any razor. By far. It was my first Wolf, ordered years ago. And I just sold my last additional WR2 just before the holidays. I’ve had a number of them just to realize I got it right the first time. So this Wolf is the king of my den.

I’m not an everyday shaver. That’s a bit of an understatement as I’ve only logged 82 shaves this year with an average of 4.4 days between shaves.

I don’t keep statistics like you do. But I do document each shave in my journal. So I tend to count days between shaves now more than before. Prior to 2024, I was shaving every 2 to 4 days. Leaning more towards every 2 days. In 2024, I had regularly gone stretches of 5 to 10 days. Sometime more. Very untypical for me. I am sitting here right now with the itchy neck. Just looking in the journal. It’s been 10 days. Don’t know why. Maybe I’ve been busy. Maybe I’ve been enjoying the scruffy look. Not sure. But since I have been shaving less often, I am enjoying my shaves more. That is not the cause of the huge reduction in frequency. But it is the unanticipated result.

Happy shaving for 2025!

My exploding razor knows secrets
I will use this sterling silver razor, handmade by a silversmith and engraved with my name, as the symbol of the year 2024.
I am very happy to see that in today's world full of mass production and CNC precision processing, there are still craftsmen inheriting the Victorian working methods.

Karve Bison and Razorock Bruce brush is my most used combination. (La Toja and Astra for illustration sake).
At the end of the day convenience wins for the most part. No wonder why Henson is such a hit, like the Bison the blade is clamped downwards, with minimal exposure which delivers a consistent shave each and every time.
The Razorock Bruce brush has excellent lathering capabilities, but very little scrub and in conjunction with the Bison allows for irritation to be kept at minimal. #nodrama #justshave

Mine is Blackland Blackbird polished standart plate with long handle. Very smooth with its small gap and large exposure. Perfect combo for comfy and clean shave for wiry hair.

I did not like the machined Blackbird at all by the way. It is kinda dragy but this polished one... Man, it is awesome.
