Simmons M7 Shaving Brush (Ivory) - Is this a knock off?

Purchased the following Simmons M7 shaving brush from Amazon (seller is Simpsons Shaving Brushes Store).

When reading the Amazon listing I was confused as to which version of the M7 brush this listing actually was from the marketing language provided. Moreover no pic of the the back of the brush (which denotes the model for Simmons' brushes) was not present. I decided to take a risk as I can always send it back if it's a counterfeit.

Pics below show the brush I was shipped.

As you can see, the model type listed on the brush is "synthetic bristle" but I can't find a synthetic bristle listed anywhere on the Simmons webpage as a brush model. Is there an actual synthetic bristle M7 brush or is this a knock off? If there is a "synthetic bristle" M7 brush is it any good? I paid $99 for this and have noted that the lowest tiered M7 on the Simmons webpage is the Sovereign Synthetic ($50).

Some seller on both Amazon & Ebay sell knocks offs.

Hope you got what you paid for.

Know Amazon’s has good return policy, as wife uses Amazon.

I make many trip to return junk products to Amazon.

Lots of Counterfeit Products out of Asia.👎

I smell like a Christmas pudding
It is genuine, it is simply older stock and in my experience the older a Simpson brush is the better it is likely to be. Simpson have changed the names of their synthetic fibres several times in a bid to make their offerings even more confusing than they already were.

Thanks for your reply @brucered and the link. It is much appreciated. In terms of the older variants of the platinum synthetics (i.e. synthetic bristle), why do you believe that? Your link indicates the material is identical between the plantinum and the bristle. Were they older variants more densely packed?

I got moves like Jagger
"Synthetic" was the name when Simpsons only offered a single type of , ummm, synthetic knot. When they added a second type, they rebranded the original synthetic as "Platinum" and the newer one as "Sovereign." Platinum is their premium synth knot.

My CH2 synth says "Synthetic" as well.

Out of curiosity, have tried both types of synthetic knots from Simpsons and if so, whats your thoughts on them and, is it worth the price difference for Platinum?

Reason being, I have the Trafalgar T2 Sovereign Synthetic and I'm debating buying a Platinum or trying something different like a Muhle STF etc.

I also have the Simpson Trafalgar 2 Sovereign Synthetic brush as well as the Trafalgar 3 and consider them the best bang for your buck for a synthetic brush. Both are excellent brushes. I also have a Simpson Chubby 2 with their premium platinum synthetic fiber which is perhaps slightly softer but I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra cost. I also have a Muhle STF 23mm which is best of all.

Good to know, thanks.

I'm currently considering the 25mm Muhle STF Dense++ that's sold by AP Shave Co., just waiting for them to restock with better handle options.

My only (little) gripe with the Trafalgar T2 is that it's not great for face scrubbing. I've had better brushes in the past but they were also badger, this is my first synthetic, so I don't know if its a Synthetic issue or “knot” 😏

IMO - can't beat APShaveCo's Muhle STF loaded into a Shavemac handle...

Again, my opinion only - face lathering with a synthetic is my last option.
Id' much rather go Boar, Misutra, and Badger before a synth.

Not saying it's bad, just that you can't compare a face scrub with a well broken in Boar

Then I guess I'll wait for the brush handle to be restocked and coincidentally, it is a Shavemac handle I'm waiting on.

Boar is too rough on my skin, never heard of Misutra, ill have to research that.
Might have to consider getting a new Badger while I’m at it. Now I have to begin researching Badger brushes 😄 and Misutra 🤔

Mistura means “mixture.” It’s a mix of badger and boar hair. Never tried one but supposedly, it gives the benefits of the softness of badger with the scrub of boar

Yes… I just looked into it. Intreguing to say the least!
Indeed - Semogue uses their finest badger along with their premium boar bristle to make a fabulous knot. Like with all boar, it does take a bit of break in.

Back on track - I have T2 and T3s in Sovereign and like them; in fact the T2 is a primary travel brush for me along with a smaller badger. The T3 borders on being too dense, but is perfect for chewing through soaps

That brush in the picture is the one I would consider. The resin handle for some reason is pricer then the wood equivalent but, in my opinion, will better stand the test of time in a wet environment especially, my brush pre/post soak/cleaning routine.

BTW… AP Shave Co. Offers the same knot with Shavemac handles but they're priced at a premium. 😔

Thanks Chris.

You bet, but that was a limited release from a few years back.
They make an SOC handle in both resin and wood; for all natural knots

Then there's the larger Pegasus:

I was looking at the Semogue Owners Club Mistura Badger and Boar Bristle Shaving Brush, Taj Resin Handle from Fendrihan's, at the moment.

I'm probably going to go down the proverbial "rabbit hole" with my propensity to "analysis paralysis" myself into a comma on this
