^ Those flair tips were used in various special edition or deluxe sets. They had rhodium plated shafts and fully polished caps.

:blushing: Quite happy to be proven wrong, In the great scheme of the cosmos things posted are taken as law, not face value, then someone tries selling an item as what was gleaned from misinformation. I saw this first hand with one sugar bowl listed as a shaving bowl with a lid, it had a half moon cut out for the spoon, then another sugar bowl is listed as shave bowl?

Sorry Mercy, to have doubted you.

I find rhodium really hard to pick out from bright nickel in most photos.
Mersey man is putting together a very impressive collection
Yup, rhodium is pretty tricky depending on the light conditions. One of these is factory Gillette rhodium on the handle, another back roads gold rhodium single band president and another a nickel Aristocrat.

I like the “TV” style flare tip rocket. Don’t have any pictures but picked one up a while ago for a good deal. Probably the cheapest way to get a rhodium Gillette. I don’t know how well the plating was done so cleaned it in a mild vibratory tumbler media and was a great improvement.

Nos Wardonia 'New Edge' Rugby set. The blade pack is dated November 1940.

The case is identical to Gillettes #44 set, it's weird seeing direct competitors using the same kit (both cost 2/6)
Here's a #44 from 1941ish, Cal had the Gillette blue version.

Another version of the Wardonia, differing case, I would guess a latter version? And a red/maroon #44 :eek2:

I recall from reading? Wardonia never actually manufactured the parts, but used various manufacturers and just assembled the sets? If correct this may explain the similar cases? Did Gillette make everything?? they sold, or use third parties? Thats a lot of machinery to stamp/press metal, and labour to cover and fuzz cases??
Direct competition is shown up by "The New Barrel Hole" and locating pin width, which allowed a Wardonia blade to fit a Gillette old type pins, but excluded a Gillette blade from a Wardonia razor.
I only have one Wardonia owing to the blade pin arrangement.

Awesome, that's one of the earlier Rugby sets. I think it replaced the Derby set sometime in the mid 30s?

This is the only instance of Wardonia using a case specifically made for Gillette, it lasted until the late 40s when they started using a different one again. Presumably they had the same supplier working under heavy restrictions, the velvet interior was replaced by leatherette soon after those were made.

Wardonia didn't make anything, the 'New Edge' was designed with Merkur and I suspect some of the guards/handles were made in Solingen before the war. From the late 30s we get 'Made in England' everywhere. The Progress is part of this family.

I see those all the time. I love anything with a starburst on it, too. The only reason that I haven’t bought one is because it is a woman’s razor… which is stupid and backwards. I should buy the next pristine one that I come across.
Just shaved with this for the first time. Loaded her up with a Feather and she shaves exactly like a a Super speed with the added manoeuvrability of the long handle. Excellent.
