Ruminations on the Edge

Not even a little bit
Ok I admit it I am green with envy.

That stinks man!
The mail has been crazy this last month and everything has been delayed. And FYI, no USPS deliveries this coming Thursday. They're not working that day in remembrance of Carter.
Everything Federal will be closed on that day!
It truly is weird. According to the tracking data I had an incoming brush arrive at a Jersey City distribution center on Friday then get routed to a center in Montana. I live in NJ!

I had my first shave this morning with the Tithena and my initial impression is that it shaves very differently than the Athena Bz.

On the opening WTG pass I found myself a bit disoriented. The Tithena's 69g feels very different than the Athena Bz's 117g, both in the way it lays on your face and the way the downward force of the weight assists the shave. The effect is that it feels much softer and lighter, and maybe even like it is doing less work. Unlike the TiBird, Ti Nodachi, or Timeless Ti95 which all have positive exposures which provide a lot of blade feel, the Tithena has less of a strong presence during the stroke, something which was somewhat compensated for by the additional weight of the Athena Bz.

The XTG pass was similar, although the lighter weight seemed to boost agility and maneuverability.

But on the ATG pass the Tithena revealed its magic. When the razor is inverted and stroking upwards, working against gravity, is when the light weight and increased agility start to have a material positive impact on performance. This was most noticeable in the mustache area, where the light weight allowed me to have significantly more control and precision when buffing. I was able to slowly and carefully buff ATG without getting tired or struggling with unwanted shaking or movements, an attribute which I noticed is particularly strong in the TiBird.

My Tithena also has the v2 head design and I noticed I enjoyed the rounded corners.

My initial conclusion is that while the raw efficiency of the Tithena is unchanged from the Athena Bz, meaning how it cuts on each individual stroke, the possibility exists, and I think its high, that the net efficiency is higher due to its increased control and precision during the ATG pass. Today's shave with a Wilkinson Germany yielded a full BBS whereas the Athena Bz typically delivers what I call a BBS/BBS-, a 1/8th step lower. I know, I know, this is kind of a ridiculously small increment, not empirically measurable, and all totally subjective, and there's even a chance I'm imagining some part or all of it. But that was my initial impression.

It's a work of art. I'm glad I own it. I'm glad I own both :001_smile

She isn't talking to the other razors, though she did ask her brother Ares to fetch her a microfiber cloth so that her almost as stunning, but demure sister, Bronzena, could polish her head.

When I opened the cabinet to put my R41 away, Tithena asked me if I could buy her a white-silk toga with a diamond-in-Platinum broach.

Sigh...She seems to be a trophy razor. I wonder if she will only be willing to shave if I feed her MdC or BSS-1?

BigAlVista,
Could you please ask your Tithena to communicate with my prodigal Tithena and ask her where the heck she is?
