Red Wing Work Chukka (3141)

Broke out the 3141’s to get ready for boot season. I’m considering changing out these laces for some flat waxed cotton laces

I ordered some flat waxed cotton laces to replace the taslan laces that come with the 3141 work chukka. I find that the flat laces make it easier to lace up this boot than the bulkier taslan laces, which tend to loosen easily.

The original taslan laces measure 32 inches and I ordered a 32-inch flat waxed lace but it was a bit too short, so I now ordered 34 inch laces.

Still deciding on brown or black. The original laces had both colors intertwined. Leaning towards the brown as I’m sure they will darken and be a nice match.

The span between the eyelets towards the front of the boot seemed quite wide so I added the lacekeepers to close that gap a bit. And it also reflects that the 3141 work chukka from Red Wing is a Made in the USA product.

@joel

Nice pick-up! Are those new?

How did you find Red Wing’s sizing for this work chukka?

I went with a wider version since I had read many reviews about the tapered toe box and sized down a half size which, all in all, seems to have been the right move.

I also added a thin insert for a little more comfort, since the foot beds were a bit firm.

I also changed out the laces for flat waxed cotton laces which actually give the boot a more secure/snug fit. The lacekeepers were an extra set I had from my Iron Rangers that I sold a while back.

Love to hear your thoughts. 👍

I posted a few days back about this vs the 595. No one responded with info about either - so in typical B&B style, I bought both. I’m a 13 in most sneaker brands - occasionally a 14 depending on the model. 12 in Alden and 12 for Iron Rangers and 875 Moc toes, but 13’s fit me best for both of these Red Wing Chukkas. I tried a 12, which was uncomfortable due to the taper. The 12 wides were better, but looser in the ankle than the 13’s and not as comfortable in the toe box - so I went 13 with both. They look like boats on my feet, but once there’s creasing and some patina to break it up a bit visually, should be fine.

Out of the box, the 595’s are WAY more comfortable than these 3141’s. I probably shouldn’t have picked these up - as I’m unlikely to wear them enough to ever break them in.

Thanks for that. 👍

When I first got them, I thought they looked big too, but as I got used to them, that optic subsided. I’m determined to break these in and develop a nice patina as I try to get them into a weekly rotation along with my other boots.

Guess I know what my Footweer of the Day pic will be tomorrow.
