Right. Also, many guys shave differently these days, i.e., less often than every day, or they shave their heads, or who knows what else the young 'uns do differently. And DE blades are thinner than those of old. IMO RazoRock pays attention to what shavers want nowadays, which is why they have been successful.

Yeah I don't know of anyone on B&B that has actually saved money.

You will only save money if you buy one razor, one brush and one soap at a time. However, if you take up shaving as a hobby and hang out on Badger & Blade, you will learn how to get enjoyable irritation free shaves.

To be honest, even with Mach 3, I had no irritation. But, after my first shave, I told my wife, "Honey, you will not believe this..."
She knows, but pretending to let me have my toys.
The MACH3 is my favorite cartridge razor. IMHO, my best shaves come from a straight razor, then a DE safety razor, and then from a MACH3 - based on how my shaven face feels to my fingers. I can't explain this. They all have steel blades with sharp edges, right?
I joined here 3 years ago, never used carts but always used electrics. With electric you save money: Buy a good machine every 5 years or so and change the blades out once a year!
Total investment in a five year period is around $550.
So I saved with my machines!
Fast forward 3 years, I've spent that much in a week, no kidding! (And I ain't the only one!)
See one or two that "you have to have", press buy it now and poof, $550 gone!
I'm currently sitting at around 70 razors and have been through countless more while trying all of them out. But you know what?
It's a fun and enjoyable hobby and it could always be worse with other hobbies.
Electric & cart shaving is boring, wet shaving is fulfilling and the friendships here on B&B make it worthwhile.
So I say to you my friend, welcome and good luck!!

I am so glad, I am broke right now. Because the wishlist I have is just insane. This community is one of the best things that has happened to me on the internet for a long time.
I just ordered the new updated Merkur 34 recently so havent ordered a GOAT (yet) but if the new updated 34 impresses then im certainly ordering a GOAT. I also have the 2017-2023 34G and Dovo Primo so will be interesting to note their differences.
The razor is intended to be an homage / clone of the Merkur 34c and yet you find it as efficient as the EJ 3one6 and the Tatara Nodachi ?
This is quite puzzling and confusing. I'm not implying I don't trust your opinions, on the contrary, I value them. I'm simply very surprised by the reviews on this razor. Both razors mentioned (Nodachi and 3one6) are viewed by most as medium to high aggression with fairly high efficiency. If the GOAT is more efficient than an Overlander yet still has low blade feel, does that mean it shaves like a Lambda Athena ? If so it's an insane value.
A homage is to honor something and not to necessarily copy it (completely).
So it might look like a 34C but it doesn't mean that it will necessarily perform like one.
Lots of razors look like others but shave totally different!
And trust or not in anyones opinion, this is all highly subjective and totally YMMV!
That means that what I feel or like might not be what you feel or like.
It's happened to me plenty of times with the dozens of razors I've bought:
I've read reviews, analyzed it, bought it and it's been nothing for me like what people have claimed.
Funny you mention the Athena, that was one of them (and the Ares too). I couldn't sell them fast enough!
Summary:
The Nodachi (I've never tried a 3ONE6) feels to me as low to medium aggression, has good efficiency and is more blade forward.
The GOAT is definitely more efficient than an Overlander (for me). Both have similar blade feel!
Even though I disliked the Athena, yes they have similarities due to the small gap and minor blade feel.
That's as good as I can explain it since I consider myself a mediocre reviewer to begin with. It's not easy for me
to explain specifics in a shave and unfortunately it's usually not very eloquent. I write in brainstorm mode!
That might be why you're surprised at the comparisons!
Bottom line:
Most razors I've tried are different in one way or another. So it's always hard to answer when someone asks:
"What razor does it shave like?"
We do the best we can in order to compare but it's always tough.
And the GOAT is no exception when it comes to this.
In the end, as always, it's YMMV!
