RazoRock Merkur 34c HD clone in 316L incoming

I wish a SS 34C was available when I started. I loved that razor but I wanted a BIFL item. Hoping the price point is attractive for newcomers
I don't know about BIFL but I inherited an uncle's 34. He was an every 2nd day shaver. I asked my cousin and she says it is about 30 years old. Give or take a year. Still looks good. There is too much yip around here about Zamac, Pot Metal, etc. Properly done they will outlast us.

Good point, if it's well taken care of, then it should. But would it survive a drop? Glad to hear that your uncle's razor is still hanging around!

As long as the chroming is very high quality, it should last it well cared for. I had an EJ89 where the chrome was compromised near the post and the post snapped off and was lodged into the handle.

I guess that would depend on what it's landing on.
Haven't dropped a DE or Straight yet. I don't intend on doing so, but I have a stone counter and flooring; even a SS head or blade would be at risk of damage. The finish on my Muhle's look good as new with the only maintenance being performed is a monthly-45 day scrubbing with an old toothbrush and Dawn soap.

I know I'm prone to dropping things... I can't do anything to protect a razor from the sink, but I have a thick bathroom mat on the floor under my shaving area.... <eg>

My 34c after falling from chest height onto a stone floor. Aside from a gnarly gash, no issues.

Okay, I have received mine and promptly shaved with it.

Initial appearance impressions:
  • I think they nailed the head geometry-- it looks very close to my 34c (pre recent update)
  • The handle is the big difference-- the Razorock handle is longer and heavier
  • The Razorock QC on this seems very good-- great quality for the price, even if higher than other offerings
Initial shave impressions:
  • Despite the similarities in the head, the shave felt very different
  • The GOAT feels only slightly more aggressive than the 34c, likely just due to the weight
  • I would not say the GOAT is aggressive though-- probably in the medium range
  • The shave is more smooth and predictable than the 34c due to the blade alignment and rigidity
  • Theoretically, the GOAT is better, but I am used to the quirks of 34c-- time will tell if I decide I prefer it
I would be interested in hearing this compared to the Weber on a bulldog handle, since that might be more similar. It would also be good to hear Mamba or GC owners thoughts as well.

Looks good - Hollow HD handle is kind of intriguing by itself.
I'd think to pair this with their Titanium Halo handle

How it lands is just as important as what it lands on.
That looks to be a fortunate landing @taiga

Very interested as well. As famous a razor as it is, I have never owned a Merkur 34c and since it is such a widely used and talked about razor, I've always wondered where it falls in efficiency compared to say a GameChanger 68P or GameChanger 76P.

I've personally found the GC 68 to be noticeably more efficient than the 34c. Will be interesting to see how the GOAT compares with the GC68 and others.

Oh yeah, that’s based on the new redesigned head for sure.

It looks awesome. I only have the new merkur head and I share the same impressions, a little more aggressive and blade rigidity seems better. I’d say it’s not only the weight, the geometry is different.

Maybe I need to try the GOAT :c1:

This is the B&B Way, my friend...

The Merkur is prettier :)
Perhaps the Merkur has a better polish, but it's the underside of 34C and 39C that I hate looking at.

Interesting, I initially thought it would perform closer to the .76p

I'm a 1 on the scale.

I'm one of the few on B&B who fell in love with original Mamba (53) and gets perfect 2 pass shaves every time. I rarely use anything else and when I do, it's only for a couple shaves.

I'll be out on this one. Sounds way too aggressive for my tastes too. It's not that I can't use a more aggressive razor, it's that I don't need to in order to get a great shave.

Your post kind of reminded me of this scene.

I can't say. Ican tell you that is over 40 years of shaving with a DE I have never dropped one. I am not sure how that actually happens. I always rub my fingers on a towel and dry the handle before I pick up a razor. Believe me, I am also not always a preternaturally graceful person either. But as mentioned above place a nice mat in front of your vanity. Nicer to stand on too!

Here is another thought, I did drop my razor and brush stand once while cleaning it. That cracked a tile. Had it been a razor I would have rather it snapped the head off then present me with a cracked tile and a Saturday of mucking about replacing it.
