Possibly Neverending Soap Passaround Box

Perhaps I need my afternoon shot of Cuban coffee, but I don't quite get this. The purpose is to grab some unused pucks and replace with equivalent value unused pucks; not to try various soaps, keep what I like, put used pucks back, and replacing what I took in kind? Does that make sense?

The intent is for members to get first hand exposure to 10-15 different pucks of soap. They have up to five days to try a few out and ultimately keep a couple of their liking. They must also contribute an equal value of new soap to replace what they took. My hope is people replenish the box with soaps they already really enjoy so others have the ability to try them and potentially find a favorite they may have otherwise never known about.

Well, if the box gets to me and it had mdc, razorock, and dr Harris in it, I'll be happy, if it's used or unused, idc, lol.

If people stick to the $30 target then there will be some really nice soaps in the box. If I were participating I'd be looking to add something like Strop Shoppe SE with tallow, PannaCrema, Barrister & Mann, or LA Shaving Co.

I personally don't mind receiving a soap that's only been used a few times. I think it would be more fun to do a single test lather on a few soaps in the box that we've never tried as opposed to only being able to smell it.

$30.00 is that sweet spot where you can buy 1 really quality soap or a couple of nice artisan pucks. I'd be happy to receive either.

Alright Gents,

I've just ordered 12 soaps to kick this thing off. Some are well established brands, others are from well known artisans. ALL have gotten a fair amount of attention here on B&B. I have no doubt, anyone receiving this box would be very happy with the variety and selection.

So far we have 7 members who have sent PMs. Get the word out to others who may be interested, this should be a lot of fun!

Jason,

I've taken quite an interest in this thread, so I was personally trying to think of which 10 to 15 that I'd put in this to start this with myself. So you have me curious about your choices and how they would compare to my list.
Since I will not be participating, is there any chance you'd PM me a list of what you ordered? Or if not a then maybe a list of your favorite soaps.
I know you want the box to be a surprise for the participants so if you decide to let me in on it, I promise I will keep the information to myself.

Thank you,
David

I've already started looking at and thinking about what I want to put in the box! Dangerous, since I have a month left in the GRUC before I'm allowed to buy anything.

I've never tried doing the Restraints thing but I'm thinking about doing the 2014 Restraint. It'll give me an excuse to tell my wife why I need to buy lots of stuff right away, stuff that I probably don't need, but will purchase with the excellent justification of "I need to buy this now because I won't be spending anything in 2014". I already have a lot of stuff so the only thing that will kill me is during the year when the latest, greatest, must try new soap comes out, and I'm sure there will be many.

SilentTuba, you are pretty early in the list as well. I think you'll be third in line. So if this starts mid December and each user takes a week with the box you should get it the first week of January. So you timed it about perfectly there, you just have to order your soap to put in from someone who has it in stock and delivers fast.

Maybe try The Old Town Shaving Shop at Stats. They have many of the really hard to get brands in stock, like for example MdC and PannaCrema, and they deliver right away. Only drawback is no web site so you have to call to place an order, but they will price match anything. If you order you'll speak to Damon who is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable. They are quickly becoming my go to vendor. They have gotten my last two orders, and will get my next one as well.

If you're interested check out the virtual link in this thread to take a tour of the store, it's really cool, just like walking through the store, definitely worth a look. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...ghlight=the+old+town+shaving+company+at+stats

Jason,

Thanks for sharing.
Really nice list, I've tried and like quite a few of these.
There are actually several I haven't tried, and a couple on my short list of ones I'd like to try as well.

You guys are really going to enjoy this and it'll be interesting to see how the box changes as it goes.

Thank you

Haha, as I'm getting requests to join, I am ordering the names geographically to reduce shipping times between pass-offs. Since I'm in California it's gonna work its way east to begin with. You shouldn't have to worry about breaking your pledge. :biggrin1:

Jason,

Your box your rules so feel free to ignore my suggestion if you'd like.

Since I'm not a participant and won't be impacted by the decision either way, I feel I can offer an unbiased opinion.

Putting it in order geographically seems like a good idea and may save a day or two but is it really worth the trouble.
This does matter a lot when the box is traveling out of the country and back, but not nearly as much when it stays in the US.

In doing other passaround boxes we had people in the list move spots around due to business travel, family issues, etc.
Then as people were added there is no way to keep doing it geographically.

Maybe to go in order of who signed up first in the posts and work your way through as this is probably the easiest and most fair way to do it.

Thank you,
David

Gents,

Here is the order I currently have in mind. It pretty much follows dfaulk's suggestion with a minor tweak since we have a three people in Texas, I'm going to keep them together. Please let me know if there are any purchase sabbatical issues. The goods may get here as early as next week so I may initiate this sooner if there aren't any objections.

There is still time for others to get in if you want.
