Photis’s guide to his shaving

full

Today I threw caution to the wind and mixed things up quite a bit. I substituted three different products into my latest rotation. The Proraso pre-shave (instead of the PS oil), Stirling Electric Sheep soap (vs the no name puck) and Thayers witch hazel (sub Aqua Velva AS). And I used the 6S r2 (vs the r3)

I did two passes WTG and touch ups. I’d say I got a CCS out of it all. I enjoyed it. :)
What happened to your Omega brush? Did she fall from a great height?

I had a great shave today. Really improved my mood. Feels great. 9/10. Same thing I’ve been doing since the beginning except less. No pre-shave lotion or oil. I still got a great shave.

I’d say my skin is not the most sensitive and my facial hair isn’t super thick and coarse. In fact it’s on the lighter side.

Oh and last day on the Derby Extra blade. It was the fifth shave today and though it was still smooth I noticed it got a little dull by my estimate. I’m going to try the Astra SP next. It’s supposed to be another smooth blade that is medium sharpness

I went ATG yesterday and today I have nothing to shave so I gotta wait another day or two. It’s funny that I’m watching and waiting to shave again and I’m excited.

I need to 3017 some of my stuff ASAP so I can buy replacements and try new stuff. I don’t have the room to store lots of different products so either everything gets used up in the order I get it or I have to give it away

K, I shaved first time with the Astra SP. First shave. It was smooth for me and I did well first pass WTG and cleaned most of my whiskers up. I lathered up again for the few spots I missed and gave it another go. My skin agreed with the second WTG pass as well. No irritation. No chatter from the alum block. A CCS. I’m happy. I’ll use the Astra SP at least a couple more shaves and see how it goes. So far about the same as Derby Extra but possibly smoother and a little closer. It’s possible that my technique is better and the Derby Extras will need another go to really see how they perform. I’ll go through a few different blades first

The difference in my shave is that I used the face scrub to exfoliate then just warm water for the pre-shave. Lathered of course. Only AS splash and moisturizer after alum block (which wasn’t necessary). Make sense?

Second shave with the Astra SP tonight for a CCS+. First time I used plate 4 with the 6S. I thought my longer whiskers deserved it. One weeper. Alum took care of that. I got a good shave and I’m happy for it

Why do they call this face scraping. I guess I found out tonight. I felt like I was scraping my face with the shaving tool. It didn’t feel nice and smooth. I used pressure. I didn't go as light as I thought I should

Fourth shave with the Astra SP I believe. I’m not sure what to make of the blade yet. Does an okay job. I haven’t tried it on an aggressive setting yet (like R5 on the Rockwell 6S) so I have to give that a test.

Decent shave today. Two passes WTG. Pre-shave oil, soap and R2 on the Rockwell. That setting is probably skewing my experience of the Astra SP
