What's new

Phoenixkh: An Old Man's Continuum....

I rearranged my work hours.... I'm taking a couple hours off in the afternoon... 2-4, as it's a slow time for food deliveries. I seem to be working toward shaving every other day now... On the off days, I'm doing some light weight training so my arthritis doctor doesn't scold me. I find, I can exercise my arms, chest, etc. when lying prone on a 4 foot long/6 inch in diameter, without hurting my back. I've able to keep up with the weight training every other day since the end of July... Shaving every other day? It's still a work in progress... but it's getting better.

So this afternoon, I had a wonderful shave with my Timeless hybrid 0.68OC (scalloped bronze cap, OC titanium base plate and titanium Crown handle)... inspired by Mark / @BigAlVista . I was mixing stainless steel and titanium Timeless parts... but Mark gave me the idea to try bronze.... It makes for a stunning looking razor, esp. with a bronze razor stand.

Nice kit, Kim!

+1 - three bowls Kim? The Cayuen is amazing. Unobtainium for me, but amazing nonetheless.

But the other two? Preshave and soaking your brush?
I don’t count that little porcelain bowl as I just use it as a display for the next SV brush in rotation. I bought it for that sole purpose after seeing it in Brian Mulreany’s videos.

The Pegasus Mistura is sitting on top of a Captain’s Choice Soap locker with a Cube 2.0 non-mentholated melted in it. Scott had that one at half price as the size was out of spec. It’s larger than the other one I have. I have Stirling unscented pre-shave melted in that one: gun metal glaze.

I'm a believer in the CaYuen, they are fun to use, and quite therapeutic as well! Begin your Cayuen journey grasshopper, and you shall know great joy. 😍

I had a rare early morning shave with the newly acquired German Schick blades.... The very first thing I noticed? No wax.... It's so nice. The first shave with this blade? Stellar.

All the accompanying gear and software remained the same as the last photo.... though I did use the SV with the Bois de Rose handle.... It's quite nice. And I'm liking the Pegasus Mistura a lot as it continues to break in.

From where did you order the Schicks?

From where did you order the Schicks?
I ordered them from The Razor Company.... but they weren't cheap. I did get free shipping by ordering 200. I looked at a few places that didn't have them... I like them.... but I'm not sure they are worth almost $30 per 100.

They might be a bit better than the Perma-Sharps I love so much... I'm about to do a Nacet run to refresh my memory of them. I used them for a few months in a row. As I remember it, always a scary thought, I didn't believe I could tell the difference between a Nacet and a Perma-Sharp. I am more familiar with all my Top Razors now, so I might be more discerning. We'll see. I bought all my Nacets on sale at Italian Barber... for at least $10 off, sometimes more....

I'd have to love the German Schicks way more than the other two before I'd buy a lot more of them.... famous last words, I'm sure.

Our blade preference change like weather. Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder.

That is why it is best to stash a few varieties of what blade we like. Hoarding is justified, not bad after all.:lol::lol:

Thanks, Kim. I really value no wax, so I might be willing to pay the premium if they’re that good.

Kim, I did a brief internet search that revealed the German Schicks may be the same as the German Wilkinson Sword. Do you have knowledge about this? Any firsthand experience with both blades? If it is true, it opens up options for restocking.
I'm not sure if they are the same, but I can say I love the German Wilkinson Swords. To me they feel like they come up just shy of a Perma-sharp in terms of sharpness but materially smoother. They are a nice middle ground between my beloved Wizamets and Perma-sharps. I've recently had some stellar shaves with them in the Athena and Ti95. Just ordered 200 from the Razor Blade Club.

Aaron might know... I've never tried the German Wilkinson Sword blades... .but they are a Schick brand, if I'm not mistaken. I was wondering the same thing.

I feel like I am having deja vu, I just answered this somewhere, but I can't keep track of where!

I tried a Nacet this morning... It's been months since I used one. I thought the shave was excellent, using the Nacet in the lighter weight hybrid Timeless 0.68OC with the bronze cap and the titanium base plate, Ti Crown handle.... When I put on the Metro Gel, I couldn't feel any whiskers anywhere.... but here's the rub: I started feeling my whiskers poking out on my upper lip and on my chin in around 9 hours... I've been getting 12 hour shaves with that razor and Perma-Sharp blades... and I did get a 12 hour shave with the German Schick blade two days ago.

So... Was I just off this morning? I just started shaving in the mornings on Thursday... and that was with the Schick. I didn't feel any struggle with the shave this morning...It could be my whiskers grow faster during the day than overnight, when I shave in the evenings.... but that wouldn't explain the 12 hour shave on Thursday.

I'm guessing, I didn't get a close as usual.... but the LEA alum "deodorant" stick gave me the usual slight sting... It could be the Nacet isn't quite as sharp as the Perma-Sharps or the German Schick. Or, as I suggested, I had an off day.

I really wish I didn't enjoy the Schick blades so much.... I'll probably use one on my next shave.... Alternate with the Nacets for awhile. I remember the Nacet being much better for me.

I guess time to put the Schick's in the front of the line Kim. I used one today with my .95 and was one of the best shaves I've ever had!
