Rembrandt Blade 3 shave 2
The WR1 .80 OC is not a highly aggressive razor for me. It is definitely highly efficient. And it does have quite a bit of blade exposure. And lots of blade feel on the face. Even so, the WR1 does shave relatively smoothly considering those specs. But with the mid-sharp Rembrandt, this beasty of a razor is even more smooth than normal. No blood, no irritation. DFS++ results. It was the best shave results, and the most enjoyment I’ve gotten from the Rembrandt yet!
And by the way, this 3rd blade exhibits a bit of the double printing that others report, whereas the first two did not. My theory about the double printed blades being from a different, worse batch are proven to be unfounded. This blade works great. All three of my Rembrandts thus far have been fairly consistent. The inconsistencies between shaves have all been attributable to the varying results between razor types. This blade seems to be quite finicky with a lot of razors.
My verdict is that the Rembrandt blade works great in an aggressive razor, a high gap razor, or a high exposure razor. It doesn’t work well in a standard razor. It certainly performed poorly in all of the vintages I’ve tried with it. Especially poor performance with the TTO Gillettes if use with it. Tuggy and poor results with all of the vintages. I guess the next step is to try the Rembrandt with a more aggressive 3 piece vintage razor like a NEW Standard or something similar. The two-Lupo test was the most telling. The blade worked poorly with the super smooth Lupo 95. When I switched to the Lupo 127, which is aggressive and rough with my regular rotation blades, it smoothed right out.
The Rembrandt reminds me a lot of the dark brown box Polish Polsilver blades. They are mid-sharp, and only work well in an aggressive razor, smoothing it out greatly.
Gonna keep going with this blade and see where it goes. I suspect I will get a third and fourth shave from it. Maybe more. Or perhaps I put it in my NEW Standard and it gets tuggy, and goes in the bin. We will see! Stay tuned!
