Rembrandt Stainless Blade #1-ish - Shaves #7

TL;DR -
blade continues to perform consistently, slight down tick but chugging along nicely, DFS+

Equipment: Gillette Parat razor, vintage Rembrandt blade (7), Black Mountain's Great Bear soaps, Captain's Choice bowl

Near Vintage Shaves: This Rembrandt Blade has settled into a nice performance groove, finishing right in the DFS+ range. Great Bear is a very good soap, a bit on the spicy side, but lays down some nice lather. I'm thinking that these Rembrandts favor medium aggressive razors, mine is a English Parat with a II stamped on the base. The Rembrandt feels like it has at least one more shave to give.

I'm really enjoying this thread. It is a massive YMMV experience for me, reading participants' pleasingly detailed reports on both the Rembrandt and the Kai. Such a comradely tenor to have a complete lack of consensus and a complete lack of rancor at the same time.

Plus I have managed to vary my own Rembrandt experiences. Last evening's max prep Rembrandt (2) shave has passed this morning's neck palpitation test with flying colors.

Rating - Nice! Very nice.
Pleasurable neck rubbing at the 12 hour milestone. It's a Rembrandt record for me.

Thanks @Space_Cadet and @Grundi !! Onward!!

Pre: Shower, Warm water rinse
Blade: Rembrandt Stainless, Shave 8
Razor: Gillette 1949 UK Aristocrat Jr.
Brush: RV 2019 Manchurian
Soap: PdP #63
Post: Lukewarm water rinse, Thayer's Cucumber Toner WH, Stirling Barbershop PSB

Inspired by @Alum Ladd 's thread on his 1948 Aristocrat Jr., today's shave was with a 1949 Aristocrat Jr. PIF'd to me by @Canadian Mountain Man a few years ago (Thanks, Kal). Switching to the Aristocrat Jr. proved to be a slight upgrade.
The AJ provided a bit more blade feel to the Rembrandt. Not harsh, but more like the razor was making the statement "You will pay attention, got it?"

With buffing, the final result was back to the BBS/DFS edge. As I type this, 4 hours after the shave, my fingertips feel a difference in texture on parts of my neck, but nothing that feels like stubble. There were no nicks, weepers, or post-shave irritation.

Rembrandt Blade 2 Shave 1

Hehehehe. My blade one finding was that I thought this blade liked a more aggressive razor so I finished the last two shaves of blade one in my Maggard Slant. I decided to start blade two in my Parker Semi Slant. Let's just say it shaves close, and my Thayers witch hazel got a little workout. I had 2 or 3 weepers.

Luckily, there was no real damage, lasting irritation, or pain. I treated this blade a little too cavalierly, and it reminded me that it is still a razor. Besides that it was a really nice shave. Probably the closest I have gotten with the Rembrandt so far.

Rembrandt edge 1 shave 2

Wilkinson Sword Classic (plastic) Razor, Cella original soap, DS Cosmetics 24mm synth

There was no discernable drop-off in performance today. If anything it was slightly smoother on my neck, although there was a pinprick of blood right on my neckline. I strongly suspect that any differences were down to the change in soap rather than the blade itself.

Rembrandt #2 this morning. I did my usual quick prep: hot soapy face wash and face lather.

I switched to a super cheap but nice DE I got a Lidl a few weeks ago. I have only tried it with two blades but I have been impressed with it.

This shave was nice. I would consider it similar to a modern blade. While the Rembrandt is in a different razor, this blade does have a different feel than blade #1, which had a distinct difference between edges. Blade #1 barely made it through 2 shaves. I have higher hopes for this one.

On a side note, my first blade had the distorted printing. This one does not. As some people are getting multiple good shaves and others are not, I would be interested to hear everyone's take on the printing quality compared to shave quality.

Kai Blade #1 Shave #2
Razor - 1969 Super Speed
Blade - Kai(2)
Brush - Yaqi Ocean
Soap - Arko
A/S - Alum, Thayers Facial Toner, Gillette Aftershave Gel
Rating - 8/10 DFS

Overall, it was a good shave, but the blade felt a bit rougher in this razor compared to my pre-war Tech

Rembrandt blade 1 shave 5
40s Superspeed

Blade is starting to show typical signs of wear. Not as efficient as it was. I had to use a few extra strokes and some buffering. Still not a bad shave. I'm debating if I want to try and stretch this blade for 2 more shaves or go ahead and bin it

Blade 1 Shave 7 - traveling back in time

Prep: Hot rag, much hydrating with pre-shave. Hot wash.

24+ hour stubble. Bedtime shave.

> Pinaud Clubman

Yesterday's excellent blade #2 shave sent me back to give blade #1 another outing, with the advantage of very good prep.

Very smooth shave, very close without excessive effort. Only the normal Clubman sting. I can get that without even shaving. If the shave lasts well, I guess I'll have to go to shave 8.

Rembrandt blade #1, shave 1

I'm following suite with those participants who decided to pair this blade with a razor from that very same time period it was made in. I chose the 1961 Gillette Fatboy for the debut shave, it's Fatboy Friday after all.

The overall experience with this vintage blade in the debut outing was pleasant. The Rembrandt blade behaved well, according to my face-ometer it seems to be a mid sharpe blade which reminded me of the sharpness/smoothness level a modern Wizamet SI offers. So, it's a good blade for my face. 👍

Both edges of this particular Rembrandt blade seem to be of equal sharpness, so my "two passes plus" workaround resulted in a DFS+ shave without weepers.

Needless to say I applied painting strokes with the brush today 😎

Happy shaves!

Rembrandt - blade 2, shave 2

The second of my two Rembrandt blades is behaving the same as the first, so they are consistent. They must have been stored well for their long life. That said, it is going downhill fast, like the first one did. The first shave had resistance, this shave was tuggy. I did a full three pass shave and the ATG pass was uncomfortable. The shave was good, with some warmth from the astringent. I normally use blades for four shaves, but I shouldn't have done a third shave with the last, it was too uncomfortable. Stopping at two shaves is a smarter idea for me. I really wanted these to last longer and am sad they don't for me. They do for others, either due to different face conditions or variations in the blades.

Southern Witchcrafts Druantia soap/splash

Surprisingly good shave from the Dutch master blade this morning. Sure, it was a bit tuggy in some areas, but no more than the last shave. Despite only minimal buffing, I still managed a close, BBS- result. So comfort and efficiency were acceptable, excellent closeness, no weepers noted today, and post-shave feels excellent. I wasn't sure this blade would make it 4 shaves, but no reason to stop now. :thumbup1:

Rembrandt Stainless Blade #1-ish - Shaves #8

TL;DR -
This blade is still chugging along, DFS+, turning in another consistent performance

Equipment: Gillette Parat razor, vintage Rembrandt blade (8), PdP 63 soap, Captain's Choice bowl

Near Vintage Shaves: I thought shave#8 was going to be the final shave with this Rembrandt blade, but the results were very similar to the previous several...several...shaves that I'm going to keep going with it. PdP 63 is one of my favorite, dependable soaps, great scent and great lather. A good blade in a slightly aggressive razor produced another DFS+. On to shave#9...
