Palmolive Bar Soap

After reading this thread I stopped by the Dollar tree and picked up a 3 pack.It is very slick in the shower, watch your step!I tried it shaving and got a nice shave with a Gem Se Featherweight, lather was a bit airy but that could probably be corrected with a change of technique. The scent is pleasant, very reminiscent of the Palmolive cream, without the irritation that stuff gave me.A kind of clean soap-detergent scent,I can live with it.Good for those days when you plan on wearing a light scent.

The 3 for $1 Palmolive bar soap smells a lot like the Palmolive tube shaving cream they used to sell in the US (CVS carried it until about a month before I started DE shaving - April 2008).

Still rockin' the Palmolive, still lovin' it. I add three drops of vitamin E oil to the lather. Beautiful.

I can get the Palmolive soap from Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree here in Michigan, so I wouldn't say it's exactly rare. Pretty sure I have seen it at Big Lots too. It normally goes for the bargain price of 3 bars for $1.

It's a pretty good bath soap, but has a rather unique scent. I would much rather use Yardley at $1 per bar, as the scents are way better.

Haven't found Palmolive bar soap around here but I did find Yardley at Dollar General and that is a wonderful bath soap. The scent leaves something to be desired but that scent doesn't pass on to the lather so I am happy.

Yep, the old Ivory ads used to say that while it was insufficient to use as a shave soap normally, if you rubbed the bar on your beard like a shave stick, it would suffice for shaving. I never tried it myself.

What is passable and what is good are not always the same thing.

Here in the UK there's a little used and very underated soap called "Fairy". It's a laundry soap.
It's green, very hard and used for getting collars and cuffs clean, but my old Dad used nothing else for shaving for as many years as I can remember, and he never sliced himself. I tried it once but couldn't get with scent.
This brings back memories.......I wonder if it's still available?

Google found some eBay auctions that mention it being discontinued. The number of such auctions suggests this happened recently.

I hope not! I haven't had trouble finding it in store, and Dollar Tree still sells it by the case on their website ($24 for 72 bars, shipped-to-store free). I've been using a glycerin soap lately and miss my Palmolive.

But using it to wash out a kid's mouth can lead to blindness!
