Hi everyone. @Odinarcade00 , a relatively new DE shaver who joined B&B last month, has been working through his ideal tools, software and technique. In his thread linked below, he posted a decision to use his blades just once having determined that the first shave is the best and more uses of his blades increases his risk of irritation, razor bumps or ingrown hairs.
He also asked fellow B&Bers, who also choose a "one & done" blade approach, what their reasons are for only using a blade once.
Having read through some of this thread in the past I shared that often it's just preference instead of necessity that drives single or double "tutu" use here. For example some members note too much variability when using a blade for a third shave leading to a decision to just use blades twice. Of course there is always YMMV.
I noted that a couple common reasons that make "one (or two) and done" necessary came from head shavers (club started by @awk_m4 who is a head shaver), who likely put 2-3x use on a blade per shave compared to face shaving alone and Feather blade use. Feathers, being one of the sharpest blades out there, have a very narrow hone at the cutting edge that makes them more susceptible to the microchipping that causes blade wear (confirmed in a 2021 MIT study). As a result they wear fast with many B&Bers reporting just one or two shaves from Feather blades.
In addition to the reasons above what led you to determine that using your blades just once or twice was best?

So I am becoming a one and done blade user. I really wanted to be able to stretch out the blades to increase the value of my shaves and make them more economical. It seems to me that the more I try to use a blade the more irritation my face has. The first shave seems to be the best anyways and I...

I saw that thread and just shared my opinion there.
Quick summary:
I’m a daily head shaver and from my experience, the best shaves are on the first use.
When blades get dull, I find I have to do more buffing. I’ve had a couple of nasty gashes with dull blades.

People love to hate on the Derby blades, but they always deliver a great, comfortable, one and done, face and head shave for me.
No irritation, no cuts. Literally a great shave every time.

I like Derby Premiums, but mostly only use them to tame more aggressive razors.
