Razor: Yaqi Vostok 1.05 DC on Razorock Superknurl handle
Blade: Kai
Brush: Arno 26mm, Mulan-1, 2 band badger, Heliotrope Stone
Shavestick: LaToja
Aftershave: Barrister and Mann - Seville Aftershave Splash
EdP: Armani Privé - Thé Yulong

One of those razors which demand a bit more time spent with them. So needy for attention and affection!

We had to tackle two days of growth together and started with a fresh Kai blade. First pass was with the OC side, which gave quite the blade feel but seemed to be quite efficient in mowing down whatever stood in the way of the razor's edge. The Second pass was where the SB side took care of any remaining whiskers standing. A final half-pass touchup round was completed yet again with the OC side.

Only DFS today, but I think I can attribute this to a lather which was on the rather dry side. Somehow, I wasn't able to hydrate the LaToja sufficiently on the face and the more I tried, the more I could feel brush burn. I worked with what I had for the first pass; no use further irritating an already irritated face.

I made a quick lather with a sample of Noble Otter - Monarch for my second pass. Any attempt to get a better shave result at that point would have been a recipe for a day of suffering, so I just stopped then and there. I'm definitely not a face-lathering guy. I did have a good experience though when I paired the LaToja with a Mühle synthetic brush.

OCtober 10 - fast shave, shoulda put in more time and maybe a new blade

>Gillette New Improved Cavalier, not a lot of these razors around, NDC but perhaps only made in 1928, wild caught
>Blue Diamond - SuperMax blade and 6/8 SR
>Williams Mug stuck in a stick
>re-knotted/black badgerized Ever-Ready brush

There were scores of British firms turning out these old type clones in the 1920s and 30s. This one was apparently manufactured by BCM of Clapham, London - with the wonderful postal address of "BCM, SW4" - who seen to have turned out all sorts of metal goods from bottle openers to pen nibs.

These British old types range from the mild to the mildly sadistic - this one is on the mild side and offers a thoroughly decent, inoffensive shave.

I know the FOCS is beloved; I've yet to dial it in on my face. I always get a couple spots that feel too close (irritated or cut). Today was no exception, this time on an admittedly difficult spot on my lower neck. When I get the pressure and angle correct, the FOCS does a great job, but the correct shaving window is narrow, more like a slit for me. I have so many razors that don't present such a challenge to getting a great result that I end up not using the FOCS that often. The FOCS definitely keeps me on my toes though.

My shave scoring log is found HERE.

Happy shaves everyone :badger:
