New soap offerings from Italian Barber

Was browsing the Italian barber site and came across these 2 new soaps. (I have no affiliation with this company or their products.)

No 1. and No. 2 - both described as soft soaps designed to be pressed into a mug or bowl. (Reminds me of the Blue Fern offered a few years back.)

No. 1 - Yellow described as a scent profile of tangerine and peach as the top notes, heart and bass notes of Neroli, Rose, Sandalwood, Musk and Vanilla.

No. 2 - Blue described as Mint with heart notes of Bergamot and bass notes of lavender and Tonka Bean.

Sounds interesting enough. Both contain Castor oil, if that’s your thing.

Looks like these use the same base as most of their soft Italian shaving soaps so core lather performance should be at a similar high level. The key difference will be the quality of the scents and more upscale packaging that's been designed to position these as $15 soaps versus the roughly $6 - $12 for the same 5 fluid oz. of soap in the plastic tubs. Good guess that these are also made by TFS. Unclear if substituting a small amount of Castor Oil for the Lanolin, Shea Butter and Argan Oil trace ingredients will make any difference in the soap quality. Earlier analysis indicated that trace ingredients have not made a significant difference in core shaving performance (lathering ease, slickness and stability).

Could be a concern about these soaps drying out if placed in an open mug so you may want to use a container with a lid.

The bottom line is that one should consider paying the premium for these soaps primarily if justified by a preference for the scents offered. Look forward to hearing about how well the soap works from fellow B&B members.

Ingredients comparison example listed below:

Razorock No.1 Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Water(Eau), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Potassium, Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Fragrance(Parfum), Castor Oil, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Citrus Limon Peel Oil, Hexamethylindanopyran.

Razorock Classic Italian Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Aqua (Water/Eau), Cocos Nucifera(Coconut) Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Hydrogenated Lanolin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea)Butter, Fragrance(Parfum), Argania Spinosa (Argan)Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Extract(Aloe).

I wouldn't mind seeing higher-end offerings from Razorock, though this doesn't look like one. I already have the feeling that their soaps' performance is limited more by economics than their formulas.

Years ago, RazoRock used to collaborate with known soap makers. XXX was rebranded and identical to AdP (?) and their LE offerings of Christmas in Tuscany and a second scent that same year were ABCBA. Both of those soaps were $$$$ and RR offered them for $. The same with King Louis and 888, which were Abba Kappa.

All of this is off memory but there are many forum discussions and confirmations of it. Some of my brand names may be off as this was all 10+y ago.

Ask me about shaving naked!

I was thinking the same thing. Something along the quality lines of AdP (the original XXX in the UFO bowl) or Boellis.

@brucered - if you want King Louis Lavender, it’s Dovo-Merkur lavender.

I do not need anymore soap. I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.I do not need anymore soap.
Sorry I simply can't resist...

150g/5oz for ~$22 (I'm Canadian) is a little on the steep side for cheepie-me.

Same. One thing that has aways bothered me about Italian Barber’s pricing is that it’s a Canadian company, listed in Canadian dollars, but fluctuates with/against the US Dollar. Look again in a few days and you’ll see the CDN prices change.

ie) Nacet blades used to be $13.99 for 100. They’re now $33.00 “on sale”, in CDN currency.

Anyhow… back to soap.
