Another source [where I ordered mine] from the deals thread...
I have been finding it hard not to use the QED Pine/Cedarwood I also just received but will have to break out the MWF tomorrow after reading through this thread.
I just got a puck of MWF today and did some experimental lathering. I followed the instructions in this thread. I know I was doing something wrong, because as I tried to load the brush I started getting lots of runny bubbly lather, instead of the brush just loading up with thick soap sludge like it's supposed to. Since it was just an experiment I decided to try working it in the bowl anyway, and was able to get it meringue-y looking but it was still very airy (lots of tiny bubbles) and was not slick or cushioning.
Did I somehow use too much water, even though I squeezed out the brush and poured the water off the puck?

I tried lathering with it one more time last night, this time squeezing the brush pretty much as dry as I could. This time I started to get the familiar paste worked into the brush, and loaded it up pretty well (from what I could tell, anyway). I moved over to the lathering bowl and played with it for a while, and I think I was getting somewhere. I still haven't actually shaved with MWF as I wanted to make sure I had some idea of what I was doing making the lather first. I've been face lathering with my Proraso green tub, and I've read a lot of posts about how MWF works best when you face-lather it, so I think when I shave tomorrow morning with the MWF I will just get as much soap paste into the brush as I can and try building lather on my face.Sometimes the MWF lather looks sub-par and not shave-worthy but I have found MWF lather to be "quirky" in this way. It will look like it's gonna cause trouble but it ends up giving the best shave ever.
Just keep face lathering it until most of those little bubbles are gone, don't worry if there are a few left, you may be very surprised as to how top notch the performance will be![]()
+1. $33.37 including shipping for one with bowl and one refill. Far less than what it would cost just for the bowl from US vendors. Plus, the shipping is fast. You should get it within a week.
Why not buy from a dealer in the United States? Whats a couple of dollars either way?
Are you freaking kidding me?! I've just been reminded why I got into this hobby in the first place. Used my brand-new MWF and had one of the closest, cleanest, most pleasurable shaves ever and I didn't have to change a thing.
Maybe I'm just blessed with soft water. Maybe I have a good brush (Rooney 3/1). But I used the same technique I use for any soap and MWF (on the 1st use) gave me tons of rich, thick, moist lather as good as any I've gotten from Tabac or Cella. And this from doing 12 swirls on the puck and taking the brush directly to my face. I had enough lather for 4 passes easy. I had a near-perfect shave with no irritation and 2 small weepers, probably due to using a new blade I hadn't tried before. A splash of TOBS Sandalwood (which I think complements the MWF fragrance quite nicely) and my skin was wonderfully soft and smooth.
If my skin doesn't become irritated tomorrow like it does with some lanolin products -- Musgo Real and Godrej Deluxe -- I may have just found a RAD killer!![]()
It's the softwater. This must be hell for the hard water folks.
