Merkur 39C Slant should not be your 1st and only DE razor

I've found that a seemingly worn and tired blade from a conventional razor still feels smooth and cuts well when used in the slant.

Exactly. I recently experimented by transferring a seemingly dull Red Personna from a Fat Boy to my 37C, only to find I got a fantastic close shave with it in the slant.

Rub it in. I didn't do at all well with a slant, either. And I know it's my loss, dagnabbit.

I've had some razors in my collection that I didn't do so well with early on in my wet shaving journey that worked out really well for me later on once I got a bit more experience under my belt. The slant wasn't one of them for me since it worked so well right away but to be fair, I would say I found it after I had a bit of experience. But perhaps consider giving it another shot? The 37Cs are pretty reasonably priced at Connaught Shaving... Not to enable anyone or anything.

My wallet cries.
I read the above posts with incredible envy, I'm still trying to tame the 39c beast. My technique isn't very good on the bottom portions where I can't see the profile of the head as good to get a good angle.

Slants deserve the love. I rotate my 37c and 39c with my New LC. Really looking forward to getting the new Ikon three piece slant when it goes on sale.

Dunno... I've already been spurned by that particular strumpet! So many razors.... (I traded the slant for a Muhle R41. Results somewhat mixed so far, but far better for me than the slant. Maybe one of these years....)

OK, should I do it?

ready to push the "BUY" button on a 37C and a Vintage Bakelite Slant Razor from the Italian Barber.

Do I push or not?

I just tried a head shave using a new Astra blade. I normally use a HeadBlade Sport. The 39C took a few minutes longer, probably because of my "newness" of using a DE on the dome. The results were remarkable. I had perhaps the closest shave ever without any nicks. I think that with more use my technique will improve as my ambidextrous skills sharpen. I have a 2 or three month supply of HeadBlade cartridges on hand. If this morning's results continue as hoped I will probably forego the HB in favour of the 39C (or 37C, or Vintage Bakelite Slant that I recently ordered) when my supply of HB cartridges runs out.

I definitely considering trading in my 38M for a 39C and keeping the 34HD as a back up along with my 5/8 straight. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I'm leaning heavily towards this, but I'm wondering if I should get rid of my 34HD and 38M so that I will only use my 5/8 straight and the 39C.

I was terrified on my first go with my 37C and I was totally surprised at how well it shaved. I was able to get a DFS in two passes, while it takes three on my other DEs.
The 37C seemed a bit more dangerous than a regular DE but, that bit of fear kept me from springing any leaks or getting any nicks.
It's the best DE shave in my collection but, I would get bored using the same razor every day and I wouldn't want the rest of my collection getting jealous!
