What's new

Man in need of advice for longer hair.

*update*
so i finnaly can do the low ponytail and wear it in public with the tuck behind the ears. Takes a bit of grease to acheive, but looks good, and when it starts to get windy and the hold fades, it actually looks decent, kind of like travolta in pulp fiction with a pony tail

thanks.
Having a SWMBO comes with its advantages. at least she let ya keep it longish.

well yeah, its not that the length is what bothered her, its that it was unkempt, 4 years of split ends, lol,

once it grows back it will actually look good ,lol

Cut it short. IMHO long hair on blokes just looks daft and pony tails are ridiculous especially as men get older.

It's not just me either. I overheard a conversation a few months ago between a group of half a dozen very attractive women. They were talking about what they find attractive/unattractive in men. One thing that they all agreed on was that any form of obvious vanity or lack of confidence was more unattractive than someone who wasn't particularly handsome. Long hair was also discussed and the unanimous conclusion was that, along with being excessively short, fat or thin, it is very unattractive.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but, Im pretty sure that the short or long hair debate is probably pretty even, as in , the amount of girls that love it and hate it are probably equal, same with the amount that hate short hair and love long hair,

to each his own, i think you're the first one to say that long hair is daft,
everyone else that said cut it atleast said give it to charity,

I have a pompadour now, but the majority of my life I've worn long hair. I'm the same build as the OP and no one has ever accused me of being a sissy femme (to my face). The only derogatory comments I ever overheard were from really old men or Army guys fresh out of Basic, or from other guys that for whatever reason couldn't grow their hair out (see the third post up from this one ). Most women love long hair on a man- if you take care of it and don't let it knot up and look like a wookie.

My advice for that "in-between" period you're in now is to use as little hair gel/cream/mousse as possible. It has a tendency to make your hair look overly greasy or clumped up at that length. If you have to use anything, something simple like a tonic should suffice. Without seeing your face I would say just comb it straight back until you're able to tie it off in the back.

Growing your hair long is probably the safest mid-life crisis you can hope to go through.

I lift alot of weights, and i'd like to think i'm in pretty good shape. Not cartoonish, but muscular build.

I've actually been getting more smiles and being approached more often by older attractive women ( i'm 21, most the women that show interest are 26-32, which imo is a good thing) since doing the low pony tail. The wildest one was on the subway earlier this week, this very fit, attractive, and "well endowed" 30 yo wearing capri yoga pants, and spandex top without a bra complemented me on my hair and shave (a keeper amirite?) Then i found out she had a fiance and well, i just won't go there.

Fact of the matter i've found, its all about how you carry yourself and how well you maintain it. Tidy and neat works well. Alot of women say one thing in front of a group girlfriends, different things when they confide in a close girlfriend, and completely different things behind closed doors. And every "posse" has its own ideals and standards
I love clubman Rob :001_tongu hahaha

This (no homo)

I would look for less superficial women!

Cute. Reading the actual thread indicates many helpful and positive suggestions on how to care for hair during the growing process. Calling the OP's decision "daft" and his hair style "ridiculous" doesn't add much to the thread. IMHO, of course.

Agreed, and thank you for the support. Alas this is a public forum, and if he choose to express that sentiment, by all means he's entitled to.

I would like to thank everyone again for their contributions to this thread, whether in agreement or not with my current position.

_hey everybody, just posting an update_
front bangs are down past my chin when wet, and i can almost have a pony tail hold without any product(i guess the goal).

This has led me into a new dilemma, hair brushes. I've gone through 2 in one month, the plastic beads at the end get torn off my by thick arse hair. The first one from the dollar store i didn;t care about, but the 10 dollar con-air from wally world kind of pissed me off. I've tried to be gentle with it, but to tame it, i need to get the brush in deep soonner or later.

I've been looking into kent brushes made with hair, but realize i know NOTHING about brushes.

In the meantime, i'm using a large plastic comb to keep it tame, which is working ok, but it just allow me much room for shaping.

One of those times that syntax is important.
Might I suggest that you'll get better brush longevity by using it on your head?
