What's new

Let's talk Pinaud after shaves ONLY

Ok here's the deal, I would like to try maybe some different Pinaud AS.

I really would like to keep this on topic of Pinaud products please.

Here's what i've used.
Lilac Vegetal
Clubman
Clubman special reserve
Classic vanilla
Bay rum

Here's what I know exist.
Brandy Spice
Lime Sec
Osage rub
Cognac neat
Sweet rum
Tequila tease
Gent's gin
Whiskey woods
Clubman musk
Blue spice
Citrus musk

So let me know what you guys like, describe it the best you can. I don't think i'm a big fan of musk. So far I like bay rum, Clubman, Lilac Vegetal, Clubman special reserve (my GF's fav, my least favorite of these).

Gentleman start your engines...............

No experience here, but Maggard has samples of most of them for $2-ish. You could probably try all the ones you don't have yet for less than a new soap!

After reading up on the Bootleggers "brand," I'm rather curious about Osage Rub and Lime Sec, myself...

Really? I had no clue there were samples of them, that is an excellent idea. THANK YOU!!!!

I also am interested in the bootleggers mix. I don't know if this site allows it or not, but i'm sure you could get a small group of people to split cost equally (shipping & plastic bottles too) and have one person to mix a "bootleggers run" of the product. i'd be down (IF it was allowed in the rules)!

I'm working through 18 soap and 5 aftershave samples from them. Glad I went that way, as I discovered an ingredient allergy to some, and just plain didn't like some others. I already have two winners and a couple more samples in the cart for my next order.

I have rather a lot of experience shipping alcoholic liquids of my own creation... but exclusively in 15.5 gal pressurized stainless containers. People send little bootlegger blend bottles back and forth in the mail all the time, though. You might check that thread out if you haven't already - many of them are pinaud-based.

I've only tried 3. Clubman, Special Reserve and Osage Rub. I don't remember the Osage Rub having a strong scent. However , it does have a strong slap in the face cooling sensation though. I enjoy all 3. I wanna get the Bay Rum and the Vanilla.

Lime sec and Osage are favorites. I also did a bootleg mix. Vanilla is a favorite too but like lime the scent is weak and gone soon after applying.

I also Like lustray blue spice (that didn’t make the list)

The tequila is a stronger scent profile but I’m just not sure I like it. In a way I like it but it also has a suspicious scent like a cleaning product and not tequila. Im
Interested in the two musks but not enough to buy them. The weak scent and plastic bottles are a drag.

My favorites are Citrus Musk and Classic Vanilla. Decanting them into glass bottles is well worth doing.

If you like Lime Sec, you would probably enjoy Citrus Musk. Citrus Musk has lemon, lemongrass, lime and bergamot, some jasmine, plus woody and white musk notes. The musk is not like an animal musk, it is part of the base notes and mainly helps the scent last longer.

Citrus musk does sound interesting. Putting that on my list.

What are the benefits of decanting in glass? I recently did that with the vanilla and I added some menthol and glycerin. I used it once but am thinking I might put more glycerin in. I didn’t notice any immediate improvement putting it in glass. But I haven’t used it in the rotation in a while.

Whatever cheap plastic they are using for the bottles seems to affect the scent of the contents over time. Some people describe it as a skunky odor. I recycled some old Speick aftershave bottles and hot sauce bottles (clean, of course).

Ya finding appropriate bottles can be a pia.

I use my empty hot sauce and soy sauce bottles for the Bootlegger's blends. I remove the labels with dishwashing liquid and rubbing alcohol then give them a good cleaning and rinse.
I think the hot sauce bottles we have would be too small but the soy And teriyaki bottles look perfect. No restrictor obviously. Now I have to refrain from emptying them out prematurely lol

Whisky

ATF. I use all three.

Gents Gin- I remember juniper and hint of citrus. I used it as a summer splash and enjoyed it.

Lime Sec to me smelled chemically/fake, maybe it was the plastic bottle, but I dumped it. The small amount of lime I got in the scent was more of a candied lime than fresh lime.

Whisky Woods is excellent, my favorite after Clubman. Woody boozy whisky scent. Definitely a heavy night/cold weather scent. I never really get the bergamot that Pinaud says is part of the description.

I like lime sec but I understand your take. I feel that way sometimes.
Haven’t tried whiskey woods. But I think I’d like that. I think these names they came up with are a little weak lol

Osage Rub- Menthol blast that is very nice after a hot day of working outside. I prefer to mix it 50/50 with Skin Bracer to make Bootlegger's Green Freeze.

Citrus Musk - @NorthernSoul described it well. It is my favorite Pinaud next the Original.

I've used Clubman (nice barbershop scent) and Bay Rum. I enjoy both.

I use hot sauce bottles for both. tabasco bottles dispense the best; although not big enough to handle a full Pinaud bottle.

The mini-tabasco bottles are great for a few days of travel.
