Hello Lambda Lovers! I am a fellow Lambda Lover as well.
I have the Lambda Athena SS and in a den featuring Drakkant, Apex SS & Ti, Wolfman WR2, Blutt BR-1 and a Carbon SS & Ti, she is my Goddess and my GOAT and Grail razor currently.
Thanks to a wonderful fellow B&B member, I was able to get a Lamba Ares v2 SS as well recently. After hearing rave reviews about how smooth it was, the gorgeous aesthetics of it, and hearing that it is more efficient than the Athena. I was extremely excited to add it to the den.
While I have found the Ares to be just as enjoyable to shave with as the Athena, the results are not what I expected. It is a lot less efficient for me than the Athena. The Athena typically gives me a 20hr BBS, with my hair type, that is the only razor that has been able to do that, Blutt BR-1 is about 17 hours. The Ares is about 15 hours - not horrible, because I can use that beauty as a daily driver, just not what I was expecting.
I have reached out to Theo at Lambda and he agreed Ares should be far more efficient, tried his angle recommendations, have ridden cap, gone as steep as almost handle parallel to my face, sharpest blades: Kai, Feather, Accuthrive.. still not very efficient for what I was expecting.
Have any other Lambda Lovers had this experience of the Athena being far more efficient than the Ares v2? Open to all suggestions, but I feel like I have tried quite a few different methods with the same result... to be clear I still love the Ares v2, but just wondering if the efficiency issues are a YMMV outlier for me, or if anybody else has experienced this? It has definitely made me very curious about the Ares v1 and I wish I could find one of those...
