June Arlington Soap Discussion Thread (#1)

It's brilliant stuff. in fact the whole Arlington line is brilliant!! The scent is a timeless classic IMO, and the performance is top notch too.

As mentioned there is a smaller sweet spot, with product/water, but its one of the easiest lathering soaps out there, and if you follow Mantic's tips of only adding a teaspoon of water, you'll find the sweet spot more often than not.

Huge Arlington fan here, but my only complaint is that the soap doesn't seem to perform as well as the other Harris soaps. The lavender produces a much thicker lather that makes the Arlington seem slighty thin and airy by contrast.

I've always been intrigued by the intra-brand variations within a product line.

I love Arlington. I've found it performs as well as the Marlborough, never tried the Lavender.

I agree though it is interesting to see the variations within a brand.

All I can say about this soap is I want one :w00t: I already got the Arlington cologne and aftershave so this is the missing bit.

Git 'r dun!

FYI.

Someone's getting rid of some pucks on B/S/T

And that's the ballgame! Man, I love this place!

I agree. Arlington as a scent is gentlemanly and classic without feeling dated or old.

I don't get any woodsiness at all from either product, it is predominantly a citrus scent to my nose...

I agree - I don't get a woody vibe at all.

However, like I posted in Josh's soap for a month thread, Arlington's scent is just a little too sweet for me. It's a good performer, so I wonder if the other Harris scents would be worth trying, given some of your opinions about variation across the line. I also realize my limited love for the scent is consistent with my cologne fragrances: my frag den is heavily weighted in heavier scents with little in the fresh genres.

I'm loving the Arlington soap. The first time I used it I was disappointed, but I blame myself. I didn't add nearly enough water to the lather. Since then, however, I've had nothing but success with it. I love the smell too; it's like fruit loops mixed with clean laundry.

Once you find that proverbial sweet spot, that balance of soap/water, Arlington will perform like a champ!

So true. My first encounters with this soap were: Love the scent mediocre shave.

The scent though was so good that I kept with it.

Today I had a great shave with it. Face lathered and added water a little at a time on my brush. Finished of with the Arlington cologne. Feeling great!

So dont give up on this soap if you have not gotten great results in the first few attempts.

I agree with you about the comparison of Arlington to 4711.

I also think that Arlington smells like Trix cereal (from what I remember). :001_smile I doubt anyone will agree with me on that, though.

When I opened my first puck of Arlington, I told my wife I thought it smelled like Fruit Loops. She agreed. Nonetheless, it continues to be one of my favorites.

I never associated it with fruit loops but I suppose I could see that a little upon the initial whiff.

Okay, I am late in getting started because my Arlington soap just arrived yesterday; however, I would like to say that this is my first foray with Harris soaps, but it will not be the last. This Arlington is great.

Excellent and congrats! Be sure to check back regularly and let us know what you think. :thumbup1:

I love Arlington, but my experience with the soap is the opposite of everyone else's: I find it easy to get a good rich lather from it, and the scent seems not just strong but penetrating, which is great because I love it.

It'll always have a place in my rotation.

I bought a puck of Arlington a couple months ago and love it, I am ainxious to try some of the others like marlborough and almond.

I've yet to try the Arlington, but Harris Almond soap will always have a special place in my shave den - it was my first soap, and whenever I buy a new brush I'm grabbing the Harris to recreate that special badger-meets-almond scent I learned to love that christmas. Good times.

Had my first truly fantastic shave from my Arlington puck today. I've had it for about a year and had always felt that it did not lather as well as my favourite soaps. I've kept it as I absolutely love the scent of it.

I'm not sure if I did anything different this morning other than really load the brush well and not add too much water. Anyway, I'm a happy man!

I use my puk in the oak wood bowl occasionally.
I find Arlington to be very good, unless........
...unless it is compared to the big three Italian soaps.
It, like nearly all soaps is simply outgunned by the Italians when it comes to slickness. protection and moisturizing.

Having said that, it is still better than the majority and is in the top fifteen soaps.

I'd agree it's not as nice as the Pens (old formula) or some of the other big name English soaps either. That said, it still performs very well (especially once you work out the water/soap ratio) and smells fantastic.
