I love synthetic brushes

To anybody with both brushes... does the Wald have more or less backbone than a STFv2? I ask because I prefer and highly prioritize ease of splay when selecting shaving brushes and the Muhle STFv2 is right at the limit of how much splay resistance I'll tolerate in a brush.

It depends on which shape knot you get for the Wald. The fan shape is going to be the easiest to splay (least backbone). This is also what I prefer, which is why I chose the fan over a bulb

Can you compare either to the STF 25mm in terms of splay?
I’ve only used the STF XL a few times and it was a while ago. I’ve only used the fan-shaped Wald. I can say for certainty though that the A1 knot splays very easily and does not require much force to do so. It still has solid backbone, due to the density, for loading soap with ease

If you have the means, the Wald truly is something special

I began reading this thread yesterday, and it made me want to break out this beauty. I never cared much for synths before…until now and, it’s from my favorite brush manufacturer. It’s a bit stiff in the middle, although I’m not really a face scrubber but, it paints beautifully smooth and creates a rich lather quickly. 24mm knot size, which I’m accustomed to but, prefer 21 - 23mm. Anyway… I do believe that I have changed my position with synths.

Several of you have mentioned the Mühle STF line of brushes and @Marco has that Omega beauty. I may have to look into one of those during my restocking period.

Make it a great day!

I love synthetics also. I find they are the easiest to use and make the best lather for me. In fact when I use a shave stick, which I often do, I can't even get a boar brush to work. You can't beat a synthetic.
Here are two of my favorite brushes, a Muhle STF 25 mm knot and an Edward Jagger STF with a 25 mm knot.

Ditto on the struggle to get a boar to work with a shave stick---the boar takes up quite a bit more product, whereas the synthetic is happy to produce enough lather from the soap you've smeared onto your face; the boar tends to 'soak' it up.
