Dull yet interesting
I'm usually a Three Shaves And I'm Done Guy.
With single edges, I often use them only twice.

I have found 4 to be magic number. Even if I get a good shave with 4 - the fifth isn't very goodI am interested to know how many shaves people typically get out of their favorite 3 razors in their rotation. With any razor blade I have used I never push it past three shaves because at that point it just feels like the efficiency is gone. Lately Ive been a one and done kind of guy because I am interested in reducing shave irritation and bacteria as much as possible. I know some guys use a blade three times or 1 time or 6+ times but I kinda just wanted to gauge where the community is at because I figure if I shave 3 times a week thats about 1 blade a week for me but If i shave everyday thats atleast 2 blades a week if not 6 if I decide to use a new blade each time. Now I know the idea is cost reduction in the wet shave community but I just wanted to know what everyone thinks.
I remember when Astra had numbers on both sides of blades. Can turning over a blade allow blade to be used longer. Would you get a sharper shave?Mate,
You've come to the right place to talk and learn about wet shaving. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I may not always agree with everyone, but I do respect their opinions.
Cheers
I never considered DE wet shaving as a means to cost cutting. In the early going I explored efficiencies to abate my shave and skin irritation. Highest efficiency in all aspects of the shave will deliver highest comfort. I single use a Feather blade for my weekly face and head shave. I recently acquired an OC 127 Lupo. Which I use exclusively. A sharp blade with an efficient razor accomplishes highest efficiency and best skin comfort for me. Over the years I now consider DE shaving equally as a hobby and throughly enjoy the luxury it provides in my grooming.I am interested to know how many shaves people typically get out of their favorite 3 razors in their rotation. Some blades still have numbers just depends. I know RK blades and some gillettes do but most dont anymore.I remember when Astra had numbers on both sides of blades. Can turning over a blade allow blade to be used longer. Would you get a sharper shave?
I can see that as a factor and how long a blade lasts. I do 2 pass shaves so most blades only last for one shave for me and I also shave every other day.I'm not sure your data will be accurate enough for practical use.
How many passes constitutes a shave? Some do one, some do 2, some do 3 and some do more than 3.
Which blade? It can make a huge difference, as can the thickness of your beard hair.
Personally, I do 12 passes for most DE blades and 4-6 on a Feather. I could do more - they're not shot at that point, but they've got enough micro-tears to be close to doing me some damage.
SE blades: Feather 14 passes, Kai Captain 36 passes.
