How Many Shaves to the bottom of a Shave Stick?

I've never used Speick, so how does the scent compare?

Speick to Palmolive? No comparison, really. While the scent seems almost gone from this almost used up stick of Palmolive (and is therefore very light), it's not a scent I really care for. I don't mind it, but it's not something I think "gotta have it."

The Speick, on the other hand, like many things German (sauerkraut, Trio, the Uncertainty Principle) took a little getting used to, but now I really love it. It's kinda rosemary/pine/peppery without being any one of those things. I wish their A/S smelled just like the shave stick.

Both Ollie and Speick give a very nice face lather, but I think I would give the nod to Speick for over all functionality. For $6 or so, you can't go wrong.

I will need to start putting my info in this thread... I'm almost at the bottom of a Speick shave stick. I will post back when it's done...

Luc, have you seen the spreadsheet?

I did not see that one before no. I think if we could built a table where we could show the product, name of the user and how many shaves, we could probably add more sticks and make it easier to read. I can always think of something.

There's also the table in wiki on the shave stick page...

The only sticks represented in my table are those documented in this thread, for consistency. I was a pretty latecomer to this thread, but I compiled all the data by reading through the entire thing. It was exhausting.

I can only imagine... I was thinking of a table in Excel that looked like this
Bob2Fred3Roger4George5
ShaveStick18060
TallowSpecial255
Glycerin38929
Veggiesoap5250

I know it means that we rely on other to keep this clean and not erasing out stuff but it could always work... We simply add what we are missing (soap or user) as we go...

I see what you're saying. If I'm not mistaken, I think that's kind of how this began when Tex started. But it quickly became a pass-around after his initial QED sticks.

We could start one now and whoever wants to add to it can.

Those are the tools: Muhle R41, Semogue 1470 and Palmoliver (Day 4 with a straight, however). After Day 6, still going strong. I'll get at least 10 out of old Ollie.

I notice that while it is noticeably softer than Speick, I use it the same way and can get 2-3 good face lathers out of whatever I scrape onto my face.

Ollie is almost used up but I predict Darjeeling will win this contest. 58 plus 6 is 64 and 65 is the highest guess recorded. I think from what is pictured Ollie has another 5-6 uses in him although he is just about to the point where he needs to be crushed into a mug to allow for complete usage. I will select a prize from my hoard of soaps and when I do my shopping the first of the month I will pick something up at the local Wal-Mart to add to it. Darjeeling if you will send me your current address I will get that prize out in about a week.

I haven't used Speick but if it is harder than Palmolive it would be hard for me to imagine. I need to soak the tip of my Palmolive sticks for ten minutes or so in order to get enough soap on my face to lather. Once soaked and lathered it is an excellent shave soap, however.

Interesting observation. During my time with Ollie, I found that I only needed to run him under a bit of warm water to prime him up. Granted, by my 3rd pass I had VERY LITTLE lather left.

Alright everyone we might as well begin. As Ollie's life continues to party on, even through his final days, we can take solace in knowing that he lived well, and long. He has continued past 60 shaves, and has shown to be the most cost efficient soap. In overall value (Cost vs Life) he may yet come in second to the great and mighty Lil' Tabacy, but has yet to edge out the good D.R. Arly.

Even know, if you listen carefully, you may hear something upon the wind. The sound that whispers is the coming storm. A shave stick with such potential yet so subtle to have seldom even been mentioned among the brethren. The scent shall not be unveiled until I have the privilege of sniffing it myself. But gentlemen, now is the time to commit. Will you heed the call? Do you consider yourself among the mighty? Will you carry on the torch that has been lit? The time has come for:

SHAVE STICK PASS No. SEVEN

When the time shall come that I beholden the stick, we will begin the course of taking guesses as to its longevity. Until such time, you are free to publicly announce your intention to embark on this seventh journey. In order to qualify please have been a member for at least 2 months, and have a post count of at least 50. It is not the intention of this pass-around to prevent the ones known as "noobs" from participating. Rather, it's important to limit the risk of the shave stick being lost in the æther. If you are very new, but still interested, be encouraged to stick around and post here and all around the benevolent forum. In the event that this stick outlives its first round of passing around, you may find yourself qualifying to "bat cleanup."

Count me in! As long as this stays Conus or at least the person I pass along to. I haven't tried a stick just yet, but i have a couple in the cabinet waiting for a try.

Not sure if I am within the requirements just yet but perhaps close enough?

Welcome to the party Lam! Be sure to subscribe to the thread and participate in all the chaos that will be sure to ensue!

I'm in of course. I don't know what soap you are choosing, but my guess is 77. I just have a feeling.......... I suggest advertising in the "General Shaving Discussion" forum and mentioning a prize to drum up more interest. Also, I only want to participate once this pass. No seconds or thirds for me this time around.
