How good is Proraso compared to Tabac?

I currently use Tabac, which I might say is the best there is, but I am curious about Proraso. How does it measure up on the Tabac scale and does it give you freeze face?

Definitely YMMV. I do like a good Tabac shave. Although the scent is kind of heavy and warm for summer; it makes an excellent autumn/winter soap. If I had a tallow based spring/summer equivalent, then I'd probably retire the Tabac to using it only autumn/winter. I use Bigelow which is, of course, Proraso re-branded and find that it is an excellent spring/summer cream! Or if winter just isn't keeping your body cold enough then it makes a fine addition in January as well. The first time I used Bigelow my face was on ice cubes!:001_tt1: Now? My face still feels chilled but it's more like a menthol chill that Aqua Velva or Skin Bracer gives you. That said following up a Bigelow shave with a cold splash does give you instant cold.:thumbup1:

Performance speaking? YMMV.
Scent producing? YMMV.
Latherability? YMMV.
Cold factor and nice for spring & summer? Proraso/Bigelow
Warm factor and nice for autumn & winter? Tabac.

Hello i'm italian and here proraso cost 1.59€ (tub) or 1.99€ (creams). I have all of them and tabac too. I think proraso produce more lather than tabac, maybe with tabac you get a super lather always and easier. Proraso need the right quantity of water to perform.
I think proraso white is good for summer and tabac for winter. Both produce an excellent lather.
Ranked for lather
1)Tabac
1/bis)P.white equal to tabac but you have to work harder and longer to get same lather (but there is an bigger amount of lather).
2)Proraso red, i don't like the scent but is a very good lather
3)Proraso Green easiest proraso to lather (and the first one...too menthol for me)
4)Proraso blue is very hard to lather, because too much water waste it and too low produce a drying lather(if you are good enough to use it...a great cream... similar to white, but i don't like the scent)

I've never tried Tabac but I have good experience w/Proraso soaps & creams. Proraso is the easiest for me to get luscious, slick, cushioney lather. I always get a BBS w/it.

I would imagine Tabac is very much the same.

Proraso is fine soap. It will give you a good shave. Nothing wrong with it at all.

But there's just no comparison to Tabac. Tabac trounces Proraso in the performance dept., if you don't mind the scent. Proraso will also dry your skin out more and it leaves a heavy film behind.

Maybe I am just a little exaggerating, but just a tiny bit. Tabac probably gives the best lather on this planet.
What's even better- you can get ANY kind of lather from it. From airy bubbly foam to densest yet resilient and mild lather. Anything you prefer.
Scent is another story though. Many people dislike it.

Reviving the thread.
I used green and red proraso, slightly prefer green.
After I tried tabac there’s no way back.
On the side note proraso is 1/2 of the price of tabac refills, but tabac is a hard soap whereas proraso is soft. Refill of Tabac lasts at least two and half times longer for me.

I'm a tabac loyalist and it's one of only a few soaps I consider worth stocking up on. Proraso might be better in certain waters as it contains detergent and should lather itself in even the hardest of waters.

It’s interesting reading these threads on soaps from years ago. How far we’ve come now in terms of artisans and the choices we have.

People have to be more specific.
Which Proraso?

I find the White and Green not very slick compared to Red, and the scents are too strong. I like the sandalwood of the Red though.
Never tried Blue.

The diff flavours are relativemy new; most of the older posts here refer to proraso green soap.

proraso green lathers very easily but doesnt offer great protection (to me), tabac also lathers just as easy and offers amazing protection.. the green smells better (i dont mind tabac at all) so out of these the clear winner without doubt to me is tabac

Don’t forget the Single Blade Proraso creams, which are top tier. I also am a big fan of the regular Proraso products.
