Help with closer shave? I am using gillette super adjustable with a feather on 9

Have you attempted the "Gillette Slide"? Mantic has a video on it if you aren't familiar with it. I use this technique when I am in need of a quick 1 pass shave, as is seems to cut cleaner and much closer due to the razors slicing action.

More important than equipment is beard softening and technique. Seriously, your shaves will get closer as your technique improves. You might not believe me, but it's the truth.

The answer is not necessarily a more agressive razor or a sharper blade.

Technique and prep are far more important and than the tools.

I am into this for a little over a year and still improving (even though I thought it could not get better a few months ago).

I suggest sticking to one of your razors and blades and try to improve your efficiency for maybe one or 2 weeks before trying another combination.

When I started out I needed 4 to 5 passes to get the closeness I now get with 2 or 3 with the same (mild) razor and blade.

+1 i have to agree that it usually comes down to technique. However, if you are adamant about a more aggressive razor, just get the Muhle R41 2011 and go at it. Good luck and welcome to the forum! Another razor that you may want to try is the Progress or Futur as they are adjustable razors and shave very well.

thanks for all of the advice and suggestions.
I went ahead and purchased both a slant 37c and a muhle r41 grande. I really like the grande but I find it just seems to scrape my hair over and over on the same spots, no matter how many times I pass a certain area on my neck it just seems to scrape over it rather than cut it. I am still playing with the angle with the r41 cause it is a little different than the other razors. I have tried to buff at different angles and different directions, wtg, xtg and atg, jhooking etc. The only way I can really get the stubborn spots is to break out with the bakelite 45 and go at it for 20 minutes. The 37c slant is a nice razor, very smooth, I don't find it aggressive at all. Anyway, I am going to change my prep around as well as go slower and really concentrate on my technique.

I'm a newbie to DE shaving so take this FWIW, but I found the Gillette Black Beauty settings (at least on the one I have) can get a bit off. I couldn't get mine to do anything until I opened it up past 7, but then realized that at 7 it was still closed more than my Slim on 4. The Slim seems to have a clutch feature where you can tighten the TTO feature all the way without further closing the gap, but the Black Beauty seems to keep closing if you keep cranking it shut. I found I have to only just tighten it to keep the blade gap open to where I think it should be. I can turn it at least another half turn or more but then the blade gap is really narrow. For an adjustable I think my Progress long handle can be opened up to be more aggressive than the Gillettes......I was thinking I was either indestructible or just a natural at shaving until I used a Feather and opened it way up...yikes lol.
