Head Shaver's Check-In

Duplicate post from the Henson Razor Club:

Headshave with a Henson AL13+ and Nacet blade. BBS headshave - I heard that I would need to buff with an AL13+ to get a BBS headshave. Yes, I do buff in some areas, but here's the thing - I can buff with no worries because it's AL13+!

To paraphrase the former NBA star from Serbia, Vlade Divac - Since switching to Henson, I am no longer irritating.

Is it swell time?
Excellent head shave yesterday evening. One nick totally my fault.

The Supply 2.0 on plate 2 was excellent. This is a very smooth shave for me. Bordering on autopilot. Tabarko was a joy as well. Almost felt like having hair again!

RazoRock Black Hawk V2 with Schick Proline blade. Was looking to speed through a quick two pass head shave to get back to the football games.

The Black Hawk felt a little tuggy on the first pass, I think just from the lightness of the aluminum. Second pass was smooth and comfortable. I get overall better and more comfortable shaves from most of my DE razors but the Black Hawk wins when time is a factor. Going to try with a stainless steel handle next go to see if it helps with that first pass tugginess.

That's The Best blade For The Black Hawk TBH 👍🏼

What Was Your Angle Sir? 🤔

I Know This Razor Very Well!!

Before Changing Handles, Try to Shave Shallow I Mean Very Shallow (Almost) Ride The Cap And See If Things Gets Better.. I'm Pretty Sure It Will Eliminate The Tugginess 👍🏼

And That First Pass, Needs A Tiny Bit Of Pressure To Guide The Razor 👍🏼

2nd Pass Do Whatever You Want It Will Float 😅👌🏼

I start shallow on the cap and then rock the angle out until I feel the blade catch just right; so I’m pretty sure I’ve got the angle right. The part I’m missing is the pressure on the first pass, I’ve trained myself to work with a light touch with my other razors and I think it just isn’t helping me with the Black Hawk.

You're Doing It Right Sir... 👍🏼

Yep,
A Very Lightweight Razor And A Very Sharp Blade,
It Will Tug And Stop Without (Pressure) 🙏🏼

You'll Dial It In Soon 😊👌🏼

I'm hoping a heavier handle will help with the lack of pressure I've been using. The stainless steel Hawk V3 is finally back in stock but I'm not sure I want to go for it quite yet.

Well, Give It A Try And Let's Hear The Results 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

To Be Honest,
I Used All 3 Plates Of The V3..
Wasn't Amazed..! Maybe The (A) Plate Was The Best Of Them (For Me)..

I Love The V2 Much More I don't know Why 😅

I Believe The Vector Killed That AC Game!
👍🏼 The Best Overall 👍🏼
And That Needs Little Pressure Too,
Due To The Weight.. 👌🏼

For Efficiency, The RX or RX V2 Took The Crown.. 👑

And Of Course YMMV In The End Of This Lovely (Shaving) World
👍🏼😊🍻😊👍🏼

Aside from the tugginess on the first pass, the Black Hawk V2 felt like the right aggression level for me so I was already hesitant to think the V3 would be an improvement for me.

The Vector looks amazing but I don't know if it'll feel worth the hefty price tag compared to the Black Hawk V2 for me.

Exactly!
It's Perfect In Efficiency And Aggression..

The V3 Is All Over The Place With 3 Different Plates,
The Standard And The (A) There's Little Difference And The OC Made To Bite Not To Shave 😂 Not More Efficient Just Harsh With That Spaced Comb (JAWS Style)

The Vector Really Worth It 🙏🏼
It's That Same Aggression You Like,
Just In A Super Nimble Mid-Engine
Sports Car Performance👌🏼😊

Cheers 🍻

Good to know about the Vector! I'll keep rolling with my Black Hawk V2 for some more time to decide if an upgrade in the AC format is worthwhile for me.

All The Best Sir..🌹

Happy Shaves.. 🍻
Went with RazoRock’s SS HD handle to tackle 24 hours and it was the exact adjustment I was hoping for. The stainless steel handle guided me to the right amount of pressure needed to fight that first pass tugginess I mentioned before, but without adding any unneeded aggression. My ending shave result was identical to when I used the aluminum handle, but it was overall more comfortable for me with the stainless steel handle. Happy camper here, enough so that I can comfortably pass on browsing some of the more expensive AC options out there for the time being; which is a rare thing given my RAD condition.

Sounds Great 👌🏼🍻🍻🍻👌🏼

Happy To Hear That Sir 🙏🏼

And Keep That RAD under Control 😅

Do any of you guys use these razors for head shaving? If so, what are your opinion/s on them?

Atelier Durdan La Faulx++
Atelier Durdan No. 7 1.1 or any of the other blade gaps
Henson AL13+++
Lambda Athena
Lambda Ares V2
Atelier Durdan Le Maurice (any of the blade gaps)
Tatara Masamune
Tatara Nodachi
Karve Christopher Bradley
Karve Overlander
Karve Bison

I have currently gone back to my Leaf Thorn as most of my other razors, I just don't like using anymore. At least with the Leaf Thorn I'm getting a DFS type of shave that is also somewhat smooth (in comparison, the Blackland Vector with SB baseplate isn't smooth for me), but also in a reasonable amount of time of 40 minutes (some of my other razors are taking 60 minutes and I just don't have that much time every time I want to do a head shave).

I tend to have to do a lot of buffing on the back of my head, back top sides of my head, so I've found a mild/medium but efficient razor/s works best for me. I find the Leaf Thorn in between mild and medium side, but not super efficient. If a razor's too mild, then I usually end up taking 60 minutes to do a head shave, but if also using something too aggressive, I can't really do much buffing without irritation, so I can't clean up those harder spots and I end up getting a worse head shave than I would with a mild razor that takes a lot more time.

Of those, I've used a Lambda Athena, Karve Overlander and Karve Bison. Of the three, the Bison is my favorite for head shaves. The Athena is great, too, and shaves a little closer, but the Bison is all around easier. It's efficient and forgiving on technique and skin, and works well around the back of the crown.
