Gillette Super Blue Razor

I also keep about five on hand to gift to new shavers. I think it is a fine first razor and it shaves better than most of my more expensive razors.

I have seen some QC problems but they are fixable with time and pliers and I don't expect a Cadillac out of a $4.00 razor. Thankfully, more often than not when I make this purchase I get the Cadillac hidden in the old barn for 30 years.

Built quality should be better than their Indian counterpart but yes, at this price point the one or the other dud might slip.

I used this today with an India Wilkie blade, man o man, it was a blast. Light and breezy, quite fun and smooth. This razor plus the Wilkie Saloon pack would make a great starter set for newbies.

It is not a Tech clone. It is A Gillette razor made by Gillette Shanghai Ltd. by the specifications of the 70s Techs. In the late years the brass bottom plate has been changed to aluminium.
I would highly recommend the razor to beginners, just like the 70s Techs. Because they will learn to maintain the right angle at all times.


Don't even get me started on that so called razor by Wilkinson. It is actually a Treet. Odd geometry, odd angles. Tried so many times different blades, creams etc., etc. Never achieved BBS. And I can get a BBS with the mildest Tech.

Hello, this is an old thread, but you seem to be an expert on the Gillette Super Blue razors, I want to buy one from Aliexpress but I have noticed there are two versions, one has the complimentary blade sitting horizontally behind the razor and the other has the blade sitting vertically on the right side of the razor inside the package.
Do you know if one version is better than the other?
I speculate one of them (the vertical blade) is the older version that has a brass bottom plate like you mentioned and the other has the aluminum bottom cap.

There is now only one version. The one with aluminium bottom plate. The ones with the brass bottom plate were 15 years ago.
The differences with how the blade is sitting in the package are because some sellers didn't update the picture for years. The current ones have the blade under the razor.
