Gillette super adjustable black beauty

Just want to say thank you to Phil Harmonica who replied to my post here regarding my razor.

Phil reached out and kindly offered me one of his razors wich was "Super Adjustable 109" (T-1 1973)

It arrived all the way from Australia today it's a ripper absolutely stunning example. Thank you Phil absolutely made my day and shaving life. It will never leave me this razor part of my collection forever with a very nice story to share.

Thank you everyone who has also commented and helped me on this post and making me feel so welcomed in the forum.

Massimiliano

Enjoy your shaves with your Black Beauty, Massimiliano.
I got one recently (T3, Q3 1973) and I'm having lovely time with it.
Cheers, Stoyan
Yes I cannot wait for my shave in the morning really looking forward to shaving with my Black Besuty. As I do with all my shaves it's a lovely experience and a nice start to my day. The whole experience for me shaving is such a lovely experience. I have been traditional wet shaving now for 3 months or so. I just like the old vintage single and double edge razors the older the better for. It's a lovely experience and such an amazing community especially here I feel very much at home.

That's true. The classic shaving is an experience which turns the boring activity with the cartridge razor to something that somedays makes the best part of the day. And being part of B&B makes a lot of this wonderful thing.
Waiting to read how the first shave has gone 🤞

Yes thank you will update sure it will be a very nice shave.

I used this morning the new Black Beauty wow what a razor. I used a Personna Platinum blade in it. The blade was on its fourth shave. I used the blade previously twice in my Wilkinson sword sticky, third shave in my Gillette Slim twist and today fourth in my Black Beauty. Hands down the Black Beauty has to be for me one of the best shaves and best razors I now own. I thought it would be my Gillette adjustable slim but the Black Beauty is now my favourite. Amazing razor and shave 😍

I was sure it will be like this 😄
Personna Platinum Germany are my favourite blades.
Which setting on Black Beauty are you using? Do you change it between passes?

Yes I purchased when I first started wet shaving a selection of blades. Trying which blades worked for me. The Personna I started at again and I am like you they are also my new favourite blades.
I just use setting 1 on all my adjustable razors I find anything above this is too aggressive for my skin. But then I get on really well with my Ever Ready shovel head which looks really aggressive and single Gem blade. I am trying to narrow down my collection of razors now and just keep a small selection. Then really work on each razor and get to know the best way to use each razor with the best blade for me.

If the broken one was an 84 it was not a Black Beauty. Neither is your ‘73. Black Beauty refers to the post ‘76 models with the nylon baseplate. The 84 went out of production after 1976.

SA’s have a wider range of adjustability than over Gillettes. Settings 8 and 9 on the SA are more aggressive than the 9 on the Slim and Fatboy. You really should open your SA beyond 1 to get the full potential of these great razors.

Cool that someone sent you a replacement. I was going to suggest you look on eBay for a Soviet copy of the SA. I have one of those, which I got from a seller in Ukraine. Virtually identical to the Gillette and I can't tell a difference between shaves.

Black Beauty is just a meaningless nickname made up by someone on the internet, it was never an official model name used by Gillette on the packaging or in advertisements. mr-razor calls a 1970 model a black beauty on his site, but doesn’t use the nickname on the post 1976 models. Since it’s just a made up nickname it makes absolutely no difference how it’s used.

Yes very kind offer really grateful I have seen one of the razors you mentioned the Soviet Copy looks nice also.

I thinks it's original name is the super 109 adjustable then the shorter version super 84 adjustable

Original name was Super-84 and Super-109, “adjustable” was not part of the original model names. 109 was dropped from the name and packaging after the Super-84 was discontinued and it was renamed the Super Adjustable.

So my first one is a 0 1 which is 1969
The T 1 I Have is 73

Yes will try the higher settings but do not like an aggressive shave as I have sensitive skin.
